Capsule Recycling Bin

GagesVending

Recommended Posts

I've thought about attaching some sort of (clearly marked) container next to racks or double/triple head machines to collect opened capsules. I would assume most kids are throwing them away anyways. I'm sure they end up on the floor sometimes and upset location owners.

It'd save us money because we could reuse them again and it'd keep them off of the floor.

Do any of you do something like this?

I have built several for other vendors they had me build theirs out of but acrylic, they really enjoy them

Yeah, seems like it'd be easy and in this business every penny saved helps! I haven't seen one before, but I'm thinking about starting it and see how my competitors respond! ;D

A lot of garbage would end up in there.

Agreed, that's my only concern. That's why I'd label it clearly, but I'm sure some people wouldn't care. I probably won't bother recycling capsules since I've decided not to capsule my own product, as I just found out that it's not covered under my insurance.

are you saying if you buy product from a supplier (one that conforms to bulk vending laws) in bulk and cap it yourself your insurance company will not cover you if a customer makes a claim? if so, my question is how in the world can they know you capped it yourself?

I'm not sure. I just (today) got my liability insurance and she said that if someone choked on a capsule/toy that it would not be my responsibility, that it would be the responsibility of the manufacturer if I was not the one who handled them. I suppose if you bought gross bags (like AA sells) and capped them yourself, then I would imagine it would be the manufacturer's fault of the capsule/toys depending on what happened. I'm not sure, but I'd rather play it safe and keep ordering them pre-capped for a little extra money.

I understand your concern and would never tell anyone how to manage their insurance companies rules, but if you have liability insurance for vending then that's exactly one of the things it protects you against.(choking) I doubt the question of who actually put the toy in the capsule would come up.

btw I tried the recycle capsule box idea and like already mentioned it became a garbage can, even with clear labeling.

I think my locations would appreciate it but I would have more trash than caps. My wing restaurants would be especially nasty. I could sell all the bones to the voodoo ladies in New Orleans.

I made the ices out of clear acrylic, people tend not to put garbage in them when others can see them do it

Another idea is you could simply have a small opening on the top so that will capsules fit (up to 2"). Obviously people could still stick their gum in there, but it'd be better than no lid.

One thing that has not been brought up is the sterlizing of the capsules. For one thing do you know what kind of germs are on those caps as you finger through them all. I wouldn't touch them used caps with a ten foot pole.

You're right, and actually I did think about that. I would wash them just as I would wash vending parts. I'm probably not going to actually recycle them anyways, because I'm thinking that at my level, that it wouldn't really be worth it since I'm not going through 1000s of capsules every month.

I have thought about doing this also. I have 2 boys aged 3 and 8, when I give them a capsule with a toy, they play with the cap also. This had deterred me from doing it. With the cost of a custom made bin for caps, it would take awhile to pay for themselves.

How expensive are capsules? I've got a huge garbage bag full of them and am ready to put it in the dump!
