ronsidney
Any of you guys run the multicade arcade games? I never liked video before i started building these as with most video games the problems where fierce! I mean i would buy a old video game,it would make 20-50 a month and then in 6 months the monitor would go out and cost me 300 to fix, then in six more months the power supply etc.. so i built these with that in mind,,i put pc flat screen montors in them that last forever and you can replace with one off craigslist or ebay for 30 bucks, and they dont have a harddrive just jamma board so there is really no maintenance at all.. I put them in laundries and pizza places as additional unit beside of cranes and the numbers for me have been good, not awesome .. BUT with the big companies like Service vending plopping cranes out and going after my crane and bulk stops i use them as a fence of sort.. They wont touch video for the same reasons i mentioned above and even though they are only making 100 or so a month i have the locations convinced they MUST have this machine in there location...so since they dont offer it then i just protected my real money maker being the crane machine. Ill give one away for a raffle here to support the forum if i get that banner ad on all the pages for a couple months !!!! and of course ill give a great deal to any of you on here that contacts me. i just made simple website at www.classicmulticade.com but i cant get my phone number to change on banner of wordpress template?? i can change content but i dont see option to change that on dashboard? any of you wordpress experts might help me on that.. ron

mjacks
I have a couple games very similar to this. They don't really make much money but they act as a space filler and the old guys play it some. Better than investing several thousand into a new video game. If I were to buy another machine of this type I would buy one of yours.

sherlock
I have an uncle who builds something similar. No coin mech and only a few graphics because he just builds for family and friends to have in their game-rooms. I'm surprised to hear they don't make much money for some of you guys...especially the way Ron has his decorated. The games are of good quality and all the kids in my social circle play all night with the ones my uncle builds. Sure the adults play too. But, I'm not so sure your customers would be only the old guys/gals...the kids in my circle that play these things non-stop are all from 5-19 yrs old. Then you have to factor in time and aggravation of doing the wiring, drilling extra button holes , cleaning the cab and doing any repair work to it. for all in all the multicade will cost about half what his sell for and will be heavier and more akward to move around. i much prefer dealing with LCD because they are way more reliable i am honestly not brave enough to mess around with monitors way too easy to get shocked bad. i know a few people who do arcade tech work and they have all been shocked a few times from the flyback the only thing that bugs me about his design is there is no lighted marquee at the top. the thing i do when i have them out is i lock most of the games out and change the marquee so it looks like the game changes every few months. its also nice if you want to line up 2 or 3 of them and lock thme down to different games. in fact considering u have a large format printer u could even sell packs of marquee headers and monitor bezel plastic as an add on. it would also be nice to have the option of diff. control configurations like f.ex a 2 player 6 button configuration with wiring for either the import fighter boards ver of jamma or neo-geo ver of jamma. i forget the neogeo wiring but the import fighter boards ( blue elf 1&2, happy fish,etc..) use the 2nd to last pin on the harness as a button pin instead of a ground pin

ronsidney
oh and about the marquee..I have made a midway style cab and it is cumbersome..weighs about 100 lbs more and is alot bigger and taller(same size and shape as old pacman and galaga)..the yield is not near as good and it would cost about 150 more to produce that cabinet with graphics.. It has to be that big if you want marquee as if i put marquee on my shorter ones it will block a persons view (a grown man height)... I have a customer in Philly that will only buy this type cabinet but i dont like to make it so i dont advertise it.. It makes ZERO more dollars in a location being that size, He sells to homebuyers so they want the same machine they grew up with.. Now for your idea of changing games etc. it might be good to have marquee only.. I do print the original graphics for some guys to replace on their old cabs.. 150 for wrap to cover machine sides and front..if you wanted marquee plexi with sticker(most of them had printed paper behind the plastic) i can do it either way.... It would be easy to just put marquee on top of machine or big sign on side (like on tatoo machine) that was plexi and you just replaced that plexi every time you wanted diffrent game. ron
dkochan
Those are nice looking multicades. I'm planning to venture into amusements this year. Your multicades look like they would be easy to place in locations with cranes. How much do they weigh? What are the dimensions of the standard cabinet? How much extra for a coin mech and DBV option without a the DBV (I have a local source for refurbished DBV's)? ronsidney
Its all a factor in the final price.. I can get those coin doors dirt cheap that holds one coin mech.. The supply houses i buy the parts from dont have one that fits a DBA in that price range, (the single coin mech door is like 2 bucks, the cheapest DBA door is like 40) I could easily put you hole for a stackerless DBA in front of machine beside of that coin door i use, I have already drawed the vectors in my cad program so i can just put that hole where ever you want.. The problem with adding a stacker DBA is that i normally build the machines out of the melamine coated board, the same board used on most all USA build arcade games, but it is 3/4 " thick and the stacker wont clear the wood and still let front of DBA stick out front, so i have to use the 1/2 plywood like the import games are made from on that whole front panel of machine so dba can clear, not a problem really.. I do not want to buy the metal brackets for DBA's from place like HAPP as they are 40-50 bucks just to mount DBA.. I just want to make this the cheapest way i can so i can in turn sell it the cheapest i can and still be worth the time of doing it.. I dont have the $200-$400 a month chinese labor here in TN.. So i want to put as much work i can on the CNC, that way all my guys are doing are putting together nuts and bolts, like assembling boxed furniture from the store!! and also the Jamma harnesses are pre wired for the coin comparitors and already have plug for it to just plug in, the DBA harness has to be wired in.. like i said not a problem just things that slow my guys down and therefore ad costs to production of machine.. ive went every way i can on this in my head to try and make it great but still dirt cheap for all of us to use on our routes. I appreciate your ideas and help as sometimes i get "writers block" on my thinking with so much in my head. ron u could save urself a lot of trouble and make a more versitile machine by getting those coin comparitor brackets that fit in a validator hole. if u dont know what im talking about ill send a pic basically its a bracket the size of a vaildator hole that the comparitor sits in so on cranes where it has 1 mech and a val you can replace the val with an additional mech, that way it give the option of using either/or depending what the operator needs. i think a val is the best way to make $ with mutlicades its a little extra expense but u can pick up 12v stackerless from ICT so cheap i just run 12v off the ps to the validator. adog
Well I for one am very impressed with your prices. I help with some writers block ha. Create a affordable crane and some type of little machine like the monkey jungle one. But with interchangeable characters (Halloween,Christmas, Easter, and een other animals to keep things fresh). That way in a few months when I do get into arcade I can pick up a few cranes and amusement machines from you At the right price of course!
