LimitlessVending
I have permission to put in a snack machine where I already have a soda machine. I found this ad on craigslist and would like everyones opinion, good or bad. What is your opinion of Crane snack machines? This will be my first snack machine. My soda machine is doing amazing, pulled $112 out last month and with warmer weather expect it to do more. Anythin helpful is welcome. Thanks! AngryChris
It's kind of funny how they call it the Chevrolet of snack machines lol. That machine isn't an old model but it also isn't new. I'm guessing its 10-15 years old which isn't bad. Here's the deal, you need to see that machine work properly before you buy it. If the bill acceptor seems to work, the coin mech works, and the board works, as well as all motors, I would say this is a good deal. If the cabinet is in great shape, even better. There are no major red flags about this machine but you just need to check the condition of it before you buy it. From my experience, buying parts for these is not hard and not very expensive. If it works good, I would buy it.

Here is the link http://reno.craigslist.org/app/4411907380.html If everything works that looks like a pretty good deal. Bring some change with you to test it, 10-15 each of quarters nickels and dimes. Test it with coins and bills and that it gives change back. Test vend all motors and if everything works you are good to go. If something doesn't work I'd probably still buy it as it is usually a pretty simple fix but you can use the fact that something is not working to negotiate the price down. moondog
I'd say that's a very fair deal. Good machine, just make sure the control board, display and keypad work. The motors are an easy fix though you don't want to be buying a half a machines worth. The bill acceptor and coin mech are separate components from the machine itself. If they work, great, but usually I like to locate equipment with refurbished BAs and Mechs. One other thing to note is that it's tricky only running one snack machine as you can't be buying case lots of product. Snacks take a lot more time and effort than sodas do and given that your soda machine is doing a little over $100 a month you probably won't see more than $80 from the snack machine so you'll need to avoid stales if at all possible. This will be a process of trial and error for awhile until you find what sells. Sam's will probably be your best source for products as they sell a number of different combo chip packs plus everything else you'll need. Look at the expire dates before you buy anything. You should have at least 6 weeks to sell everything. Ps. When new that machine would have been considered a Cadillac, by no means a Chevy

moondog
Vespa... don't you mean Yugo? Coincidentally, I changed that post from Yugo to Vespa since the Antares is not really a vending machine and a Vespa is not a car.
metrovending
you need a 3 wide snack machine so you can control your stales better. A 5 wide is way too big for a 75.00 to 100.00 a month snack account.

AngryChris
A Yugo is not really a car either........ more like a oversized roller skate. People still use roller skates and they are fairly reliable. Bad analogy.
LimitlessVending
Thanks for all of the advice I ended up buying another machine altogether, in part due to the advice here. I bought a slightly smalled Crane. It's installed and stocked. So far so good. Thanks again!
