can machine appreciation!

Recommended Posts

I just wanted to throw something out there. I have three can machines that have been kicking butt lately.

First, I have a royal can vendor that never complains. It vends all the time. It's been doing about $40/week without issue. I think it's a 360-8?

Secondly, I have a 501T that did well over $100 in two weeks. It has an sii board and does what it is supposed to without problems.

Finally, I have a dn 368 single price that did $130 in two weeks. That's about half capacity. Talk about kicking butt! The vn 2511 was about 40% full. I never knew this account would do this much.

Here's the kicker. I probably paid a combined $1500 for these machines and each one is placed in a blue collar location with about 20 employees.

On a side note, two of these locations have national 145's and both were recently upgraded with vn 2511's. They are both doing 35-50/week at either location.

I know I'm not a huge fan of older technology, but some things work far too well to give up on. Oh, and the national 146 almost doubled in revenue when I added the bill acceptor, and I no longer have to fill the soda machine with quarters!

Older machines can be well worth the upgrades.

I'd take a Royal 804 paired with an AP7600 over any of that new stuff.  Nothing wrong with a can machine, better shelf life and fewer jams - 95% of my sales are cans.  you don't have get all hi-tech to make money in this business.  Stick with a vn2511 and TRC6000 and you're looking at a trouble free operation.

As a side note - don't bother upgrading those old Polyvends you've got no matter how giddy you may be feeling right now  ;D  ;D  ;D

Parts are on their way for the polyvend!

I passed up some Polyvends, now I have a USI 3053, it needs the keypad, was working before I got on location and ribbon going to membrane ####out.

The vendo 480 is at machine shop, it is being replaced with a Vendo 621, three can deep and two slots for powerade. The Vendo 480 brings in over 500 a month gross at machine shop, just have to go too often to refill.

The 501T at upholstery shop does a little over 350 gross a month, all cans.

A 621 will go 4-deep you know.

The refubisher wanted to do it four deep, but I read on this site it is a bad idea especially for jams. The extra capacity for bottles is great, two deep instead of one like I had in the 480.

These guys drink coke like it is crazy, I will have two slots for coke and if I need I can make a third. Still one fill up a week instead of two is better.

Do you have yours set for four deep in yours?

Any jams?

the previous model 576 would jam. Vendo has made some changes to the 621 and I have seen them work well 4 deep. 621's are good vendors.

If you are sticking with just cans you are losing out on a whole other market and that is energy drinks. Just think about it, when was the last time you were at a check out in the convenience store and someone was buying can pop?

I see people buying 2 cans of Red Bull, or Monster all the time. Don't get me wrong there isn't anything wrong with just cans. On your next sales call offer energy drinks and you just might knock out a guy who sells just cans. IMO

That $40 a week account might go to $50 or $60. Energy Drinks sell for $2.50 to $3.00 here. I drink Monster 32 oz 1 a day. Yes you will have to invest a little more.

A good can vendor $600.00 A good electronic vendor. Any D/N with a S 11D board. I just bought a D/N 601 for $400.00. So $400.00 to $1100.00.

Think outside the box. Maximize profits. Only service accounts when you can collect $100.00.

Nothing wrong with old vendors. But they have to be kept clean. Glass should sparkle and lights need to work. Customers are not going to put their hard earned money in a nasty dirty vendor.

Would you buy groceries from someplace that looks like your machines? It isn't any different. Clean machines make the customer feel he isn't going to get ripped off. Because they know if it is clean you have also insured it works.

I love can vendors!! I have been scooping up can machines on craigslist for $250 and lower, mostly $150ish range (might need some small repair). I run monsters in all the can machines that are multiprice, but just not as deep in the columns. I don't see a problem at least yet with can machines, unless the account actually wants bottles which is rare for me.

Thanks Roger for the tips.

The Vendo 480 has monster 16 oz cans in it two deep. I sell a case a month from it.

Coke is the #1 seller there, if I see I need to go four deep on the two coke slots I'll do it.

The amazing part is coke still has a machine there and nobody buys from it.

It comes back to the three simple rules for successful vending. Keep them clean. Keep them full. Keep them working.

I prefer to keep them clean, working, and up to par.

I currently don't sell cans out of any of my v21's (I own one and have one more on lease) but I used to service a v21 that was 4 deep. If I had to change a machine to cans, I would go 4 deep without question.

Can vendors in those blue collar 20 to 50 locations are good money.  Never understood vendors that pass them up.  I sell those locations for a couple hundred out West.  Only a few vendors will set them up but those that do love them.

I hear you. Bottles aren't really a great idea but if something happened to my "good" 20-employee can machine, they would get a 501e or something nice like that.

  • 4 weeks later...

I got a location with a Dixie Narco 440 in a transmission shop with 3 employees :o  that does around $100 per week.

  • They drank all of this in one week
  • I had to add a 2nd double column of Dr. Pepper just it to keep it from running out on a weekly basis.
