McDonalds!?!?!  Dude you hit the bulk vendors wet dream there.  I'm suspicious of how long it'll be allowed to stay there, but you need to bypass the 1800 machine and go to a 9 way rack with 1&2 inch toys and flat rack and come proper with 30% commission because Lord knows other vendors will be trying to boot you left and right.  30% is about the cap for rack commissions and that's only on very high volume accounts.  Any more than that and you're killing yourself to basically break even.

And for the love of God if those McDonalds allow a rack then buy a crane ASAP.

lol i am lucky that my wife is a manager at the highest volume mcdonalds in my state and she is friends with the owners so its not set in stone yet but im pretty sure i can get them in the play places. as for adding a rack i dont think they will go for that at least not yet and being that this is my first week in the business and i just bought 45 1800s im gonna take it some what slow on buying more machines till these ones are making money and i know them in side and out.

i know that the owners of my wifes mcdonalds own at least 5 and then there son owns a couple to so as long as corparate does not stomp on me when they see the machines there i should be good and i really dont think i will have a issue.

as for competitors trying to take the spot well there really are not a lot of competitors where im at and because of my wifes position there i think i will be safe.

im going to offer the 30% you mentioned just to try and make it more rewarding to the owners with the hopes of it being a long term thing.

thanks for your help rick.

Sorry to rain on your parade but I am pretty sure corporate does not allow their franchisees to do anything like this, especially something that competes with the happy meal toy.

yeah that has been mentioned to me by my wife that toys my not be a option and certain candys would be off limits to but gumballs and candy that does not conflict with anything they sell on location my work. hey its worth a shot and my wife has already mentioned it to them and they want to talk to me about it tomorrow so worst case i get the machine in and they kick it out when corparate sees it nothing lost best case it stays and i make some good money on location right.

The only corp approved bulk machine is the jet coaster. There are a hand full of locations that have arcades but they are costly to set and maintain requiring full build outs. Soon as the field consultant conducts a biannual RVR the machines will be gone. McDonalds has very strict rules that govern the business. Mcd corp even owns all the land that hold free standing locations and lease it to the franchise owner.

Well hold on now.  Does your wife know when corporate is coming?  This may just be a matter of her picking up the machine and throwing it in her trunk the night before corporate's quarterly visit.  What they don't know don't hurt them.

ETA:  According to hav it only a bi-annual visit you need to dodge.  Even better!

There is one scheduled visit per year and 4 surprise visits that all are graded. Then other pop ins from time to time.

Well if it were me I'd cloak-n-dagger this sh*t as long as I could.  Maybe the day AFTER a surprise visit you put the machine in for 4 weeks and then pull it...until the day after the next surprise visit.  I mean we're talking about a 40 lb. machine that's gonna do $80/week.  That's worth scrambling a little for.

No I didn't say anything about getting kicked.  I'm talking about strategically placing/pulling the machine around visits to avoid the boot.

Sorry to bust the bubble, but corporate is NOT going to allow it...PERIOD!  On a very friendly note, (as I am not meaning to be a know it all in any way) your definitely not the first to attempt placing in McDonalds.

Per the question you asked at the start of the thread...If you are doing candy then commission is going to be rough. Margins are thin on candy already. You can 25 - 30% commission on gumballs, bouncy balls, and 1" assorted toys. Those locations have to rock though to make it worth your time. I never offer commission unless they ask or its a last ditch effort to get in. If I find a rock star place, I will often go back and get a commission set to keep competitors out and make the owners happy. However, most often they say thanks but don't worry about it.

Just make sure you do not put your wife's job at risk. It is not worth it. McD's will 100% kick you out.

Now this I definitely agree with.  If you don't get permission (from the owners, not corporate.  F corporate, you can work around them) then it's not at all worth it.

Hav do they still allow the jet coasters? The one in the next town over from us had one in their store for a couple years then all of a sudden it disappeared and I found out it was donated to the YMCA.. I know the owners of the Mcdonalds here in my town (we go to church together and more..) and I mentioned the Happy Meal Express coaster and showed pictures and they said they wouldnt be allowed to have it even with it being a "McDonalds" machine..

It was fully licensed and approved. Maybe it had an expiration date. Or the owner may just not know. They are still being used in FL. The jet coaster IMO was not a big success
