.25 candy Vends vs .50

So I have a whole bunch of .50cent mechs now and was thinking about switching out all my .25 Vends to .50 vend, doubling the candy that it's giving.. Do you think I would get just as many sales? My idea is that I make double the revenue, because it's twice the price and the COG is the same, or slightly lower. Has anyone done this before?

Going up on the vend price for same margin is well not smart. It works in large mall kiosk with changers but not at a parts store.

If you are going to run at .50 you will need labels saying "big handful" or something. AA used to sell them. If I remember right, your in Canada. If you are, you need to ask the people up there, not just here because price points are different if I'm right.

You have to look at your area, not just what others do.

It will be tough though. trial and error

We put a 'cheap .50 Rhino' at an out of the way south FL location and with 850 count gumballs.

That machine had over $18.00 with no complaints so far.

Checking the vend 5 times, there was not any 2 for vending either.

I think in the right places it's time. Competition might come in with .25 though.

Is there any problem with taping a tiny little typed note inside the machine that acknowledges the price went up, but also clarifying that the machine gives twice as much candy?    Newbie vendor here, in fact I just ordered my first machine and product today so I don't really even qualify, yet.    But would that be against some kind of unwritten code of vending ethics?   Might be worth a shot.  I know as an infrequent vending machine customer in the past, sometimes I would have rather pay $0.50 once than pay $0.25 twice to get the desired amount of candy...... but thinking from a customers viewpoint, if there were some kind of note to that effect, I'd try it just to see how MUCH candy the machine actually gave up, kind of playing on curiousity with a note to such effect..... Just my thoughts

As far as some candy going up I believe so...but peanut m&ms actually dropped at the sams closer to me...the other one I was going to further away was selling at a cheaper price..so the sams closer to me got wind of it I believe. So they dropped their price a few cents lower..I honestly don't think raising your price will look good to the customer until they can see all around them that prices everywhere are going up..out of a candy machine (gumball machine) they expect it to be cheap and they think they are getting a deal..if you take that away from them....they will pass you by...jmho..

Another thing to consider are the increased number of pieces on 50 cent candy vending.  The extra pieces could create more spillage on the floor.  And excessive candy spillage on the floor can get you booted.  I vend Runts at the lowest setting on a NW machine and still have issues with spilled candy.  Spill trays will probably be essential for all machines if going to 50 cent candy vending IMHO.

That's a great point. And spill trays will only go so far to solve the problem.

This especially applies to locations with younger customers.

But with young or old customers, small hands can only hold so much without making a mess.
