Kickstart, Ugh!

Against my better judgement I did another small locations order with Kickstart, 5 uturn locations resteraunt/bar only. They got me a great one within a week, but due to their communication deficiencies I was kicked out after one day. They got me 2 others, so 2 out of 5, and I will update after first service to see if they are worth having. Then this happened, I recieved the following correspondence this afternoon...

"We have added new business leads for you to review. Before we begin calling these businesses you will need to Approve or Reject them. We only called leads you have Approved. Once a lead is approved you are obligated to place a machine in the business if we are able to secure that location for you.

We suggest approving at least 80% of leads. On average it takes 30-40 approved leads to secure 1 location.

After 3 Days any leads that have yet to be reviewed will be Automatically Approved and we will begin calling them. Remember, you have 3 days to use your right of refusal and reject any leads you do not want us to call."

Is this not there job, the kicker is that there are 1,661 "leads" for me to review, in 3 days. Einstein defined insanity as doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results, I didn't learn my lesson so now I am.

They must have changed how they pay their employees. I pay mine per location. I'm guessing that's what they've started doing only they haven't figured out what locations actually work or the criteria to choose.

don't wait passed 45 days for their locations. That's the limit with PayPal.

I personally not only use PayPal when doing business, but also aa credit card so I am double protected!

This sounds like a way of beating a future credit card dispute. By getting you to approve, they are emphasizing they are just calling leads for you that you approved and d emphasizing that they are securing you a location which really is what their job is.

It takes 30 seconds to dial and pitch a business. If these locators would put ALL their effort into dialing & pitching instead of ducking & dodging they'd probably have a few happy, repeat clients.

Well I have had such great success with Rodney (family vending) that I have just been cruising along with his crew! The gentleman I found in Craigslist started a new job before he ever showed up with me.

Any apartment leads in there??

I'm curious, what's your experience with apartments? Where do you put the machine? How many does it take to make money? and any other info?

I'm curious for my own route! I've heard about apartments being good, but never tried them.

When I hade my bulk vending route, I had apartment locations. The only safe place to put a bulk vending machine is in the leasing office. Mine did pretty good.

Interesting. I might try it. How many units does it need to be worth it?

Make sure that your feedback about Kickstart is left. They are set up like a lot of locating company's are it seems. Usually out of country telemarketing companies that started locating in the hunt for ready cash.

Well, before the Great Recession (BGR), apartments were generally good for me.  Volume was good and mothers gave kids lots of quarters and  the district managers did not mind them.  But after the Great Recession (AGR), it was a complete flip-flop.  Volume dropped substantially, mothers seemed to stop giving quarters to their kids and district managers no longer allowed them.

Having said that, if the property manager allows for a machine AND it has a large number of units AND has some middle class families, then I would still give it a shot.

FYI rodney, I had mentioned apartments (half jokingly) since many locators went overboard on them.  Once the word got out that apartments were an untapped market and were easy to locate into, vendors and locators were on them like flies on you-know-what!  Suddenly, most apartments had 2 or 3 machines and it seemed like most orders fulfilled by locators were heavily stacked with apartments.  So if you do decide to target apartments, don't be surprised if other machines are already present.

Once any location get three or more charity bulk machines, it usually catches the attention of district managers and/or out-of-town corporate types.  Many times the district managers want to clean out the clutter and then everyone gets booted.  Or the corporate-types establish anti-vending policies due to the proliferation of bulk machines on their properties and again, all the machines get booted.  That was my experience anyhow.  But it was good while it lasted!  I had over 30 apartments (BGR), but now I have just 3 (AGR)

Oh, and sorry if I hijacked the thread, partner!
