Locks..

Ok I am at the point to finally get all our snack/sodas keyed alike. I found a guy who has a great deal on locks from three different companys.

 

My question is which would be best.. Medeco, LAI, or VSP locks.

I think I heard Medeco is the best? but am I wrong?

It's a pretty good consensus that Medeco are "the best" if not some of the best.  I have used a lot of National Compac X or whatever they are called and they work well but they have their issues.  I think LAI sells a variety of locks... including Medeco and Abloy.

 

I would only get an Abloy if it was the newer version as the older crescent keys break easily and they have their issues.  The newer versions don't break.

 

I would probably recommend Medeco only because they are proven to be a good choice.

Well after having a DNG26 lock drilled on a soda unit in BROAD DAY LIGHT today ..coin mech stolen and dollars taken..but they did empty but leave the coin box behind LOL..

..I finally bought some Medeco locks. Picked up 40 locks with 2 keys for 209.00 shipped to my door. Hope this stops the breakins for a while..

Ebay. Guy is going out of business I think.. He sold two lots lastnight..one lot of 90 locks for 450.00 and one lot of 95 locks for 470.00.i should of bought the 95 locks but I just couldnt swing the 470..but then I was PISSED after fixing this drilled lock today so I went to ebay today and they SOLD.. but I got lucky and he posted a auction of 40 locks with 2 keys for 200.00

He also has alot of the vsp locks..

That lock wouldn't have even needed to be drilled since so many of the DNG keys from Dixie Narco are floating around.

I have two locks and one key just like you had drilled, there in parts bin for just in case some body needs spare locks.

 

I'm down south Louisiana, so like AZ said lots of those keys floating around.

Well I received my locks Saturday and started installing them this weekend..felt nice to go along and know all my machines will be keyed alike..but tonight I sat down with route sheets to count how many more I need and I kicked myself!

 

I bought 40 locks for 5.00 a lock = 200.00

 

well 1 lock included in the lot was the wrong lock..neither of my keys would open it..so seller is going to refund me on that lock. so that left me with 39 useable locks.. I installed a few but counted and I still need 39 locks.. I have 29 locks left in the auction lot I bought so that means im 10 locks short of my goal.. CRAP!

 

This seller had 95 locks for 470.00 but I passed since I didnt have the spare cash..now I kick myself thinking I should of bought them cause I have 209.00 in 39 locks.. Ill need 10 more locks and I hear the medecos are 27.00 a lock? so that means 270.00 more bucks to spend.. so Ill have 479.00 in 49 locks.. see what I get for going cheap!

 

I think for now instead of buying the remaining 10..Ill just use regular locks with same key code for them..since those 10 units are inside locations and they know i am the only person who checks their machines.. that will let me save up some cash to buy the remaining Medecos

Medeco's can be rekeyed to fit the key you have. I have had to send a couple to Ra-Lock to be re-keyed because of failure. I think it was about $10. Depending on the grade of lock you buy, the 750 can be had for $23-ish and the 1050 is about $10 more i think.
