HELP! my machines are charging when item is sold out

I can't figure this out.  If anyone has come across this let me know.  All of my machines are having the same issue where they are taking the customers money when the item they want is sold out.  The machines don't go into sold out mode and say "choose another selection".  I've tried every different setting imaginable.  I was also thinking maybe the sensor bar is touching the trigger which says something has vended.  Is the sensor bad?  Is it a computer program malfunction?  Maybe a factory default?

All I know if people are probably getting angry.  Has anyone had this issue or maybe have a fix for this?

Welcome to the forum, Tom.

In reading your post I'm not sure of what model of machine you might be speaking about, but are they perhaps Seaga machines?  The terms you're using aren't normal terms in the vending business.  Normal ways that a vend will stop in a soda machine is with a switch arm that rides on a motor cam or an impact sensor mounted to the delivery chute.  This all depends on the model of the machine, of course.  Because you say this is happening to many of your machines and because this is not a problem typical to any machine, I am guessing that your machines are imported combo machines.  I say this because I have run across this issue with many Seaga machines and I would imagine that it could affect other imported machines as well.

Please give us more information.

Tom:

This sounds like a Seaga machine. If it is go into the service menu and scroll down to "CAN", and it will likely say "OFF"  Push a number selection (other than 9 or 10) and the display will change to "ON". Press A to save and exit the menu. Test an empty column and you should get a SOLD OUT message. If you do, fill the columns, you're good to go.

FYI: The CAN ON feature holds the last two cans so there will be cold cans in the machine for a customer who buys after you have re-filled. Switching to CAN OFF allows you to completely empty the column. As you have found out you need to be in CAN ON when the machine is in use.

My first question would be, why are people trying to buy something that clearly doesn't exist?  How would they know what they were buying if they can't see it?  Not knowing what machines you're talking about, I'd say the simple fix would be loading up the machine so there are no empty selections.

Thank you everyone for your replies!  I really appreciate all the help.  I've only been in the vending business for a year so bare with me.  :)

My machines are Futura models 3577 and 3589.  I've spoken with tech support but they always seem to give me the run around.  Now they are saying the trigger that is hit by the sensor bar which tells the machines something vended is broken.  So I just purchased a new trigger to see if that helps.  It should be in next week so we shall see.

and yes Moon Dog, I always load my machine full.  There is only the display window showing the options the customer has to choose, so they do not know if the machine is sold out of that item or not, hence the problem.

These machines are built by USI which is a pretty good manufacturer.  However they are very secretive about these machines in that they haven't released any public manuals for them yet, thus preventing anyone who doesn't own a "Futura" from knowing what the h*** is in them.  Since Golfdogs is also familiar with the "sensor bar" then that must be what it's called and is something that I've never seen or heard of on a USI machine before.  Once I realized you were speaking of USI machines I thought maybe your problem was with the I-Vend system, but apparently not.  Good luck with the repair and I think your only hope for help here will be from another "Futura" machine owner like Golfdogs.

Thanks guys. Still trying to research. I still don't think its a the sensor bar since it happens to our other machine which has an in fared sensor as well. I'm at a loss.

The sensor bar on mine literally hung in the down position since there was no spring to bring it back to horizontal.
