Also gonna do some of the mini candy bars in 2" caps @ .50 Besides tootsies rolls has anybody else tried any other capped candies. I tried doing some capped candy items about 5 years ago and it was a big flop. I tried: 1 inch cap - 25 cent - Tootsie Roll 1 inch cap - 25 cent - Brach's Hard Candy (Butter Scotch, Root Beer, Cherry, etc.) 2 inch cap - 50 cent - Mini Candy Bars (Be very careful with chocolate bars in the Florida summer!) All were a big time flop for me. Very disappointing. Just another reason to minimize candy. Oh, And I almost forgot this one... I also tried doing Hershey Kisses in a 1 inch cap for 25 cents. However, it surprisingly did decent! But got some complaints about it being too expensive. Had one place even accuse me of price gouging! Had one lady tell me, "That is an expensive kiss for a quarter." Felt like saying, "Not in the clubs I go to". Anyhow, it was just too much of a hassle keeping the chocolate kisses fresh in the Florida climate and I stopped messing with it.
rodney69
I had a customer about 6 years ago that used to cap the small bars in 32mm caps and did all but the kit kat. He did great though. That I believe was for a quarter though.

Definitely would be very selective for the chocolate locs
Rick
I have a feeling Jax hit the nail on the head. Biggest problem is people too easily recognize the wholesale value of wrapped candies because people are already buying it in bulk themselves and know they are only a few pennies each. Meanwhile, how many people buy an 850 count of GB for home use? I still say it's worth a shot though. Inexpensive experiment.
Jax Snacks
Definitely would be very selective for the chocolate locs Well it;s not just the location. It's also the transport. Just could not keep the old van cool enough. My ice packs would die out by 2pm. I was not equipped for full line vending and did not want to invest in commercial grade coolers. Just one busy rack spot can take 45 minutes to service. Could not leave the van running for that long unattended. In the summer heat those kisses were toast! Meanwhile, how many people buy an 850 count of GB for home use? I still say it's worth a shot though. Inexpensive experiment. Yea Rick, that is the kicker! When the employee in the break room accused me of price gouging, I asked him, "Well you pay 25 cents for a gumball and don't complain about the price". He paused and said, "Well the gumball lasts for a few minutes and the Kiss only lasts for a few seconds". That was his reasoning. OK - what ever. Now in a prior time, the Tootsie Roll may have worked out. But that is more of a 70's candy (from my time unfortunately!) and today's kids just don't eat Tootsie Rolls like they did in my day. (Of course today's kids don't know good music either - but that is another discussion!) It was too bad the Tootsie Roll failed since it only cost a penny (before capping). But for the motivated snow belt vendors who wish to cap their own candy, Hershey Kisses may work out this time of year. Just not sure what they cost these days. As you say, an inexpensive experiment. sherlock
I did mint lifesavers in a 1" acorn. Bought them in bags at Sams. Bars and clubs did well with them. I don't recall having any complaints. I just quit capping candies for some reason. This was a few years ago. So I don't remember exactly why I stopped. I would imagine offices should do ok with them, too. But, I never tried there. Bad breath has to be avoided offices, especially after lunch. And gum is not always a good option. It's not professional to chew gum in the middle of a business meeting. Maybe it's time I went back to those lifesavers again....hmmmm.
Rick
Great point about being a solid option for offices. I think people would be less concerned about "value" if they were just needing to freshen up.

Mary
When you capped the mints were they sealed in a wrapper?
sherlock
Yes they were. They come in one large bag, but are individually wrapped. I used to buy them at Sams and the price was right. But, have no idea if they still carry the large bag, nor do I know current pricing. It was the green bag.
