Best Vendors!

We have serviced a large discount store through contracts with B.V. We just rec'd an e-mail from BV that we need to rollback our candy prices to 75 cents. With the commission structure already in place, we would be selling some candy at a loss. We called B.V. And they said they wanted pricing to be inline with what they were selling candy for at the register. We are now considering not even servicing that accounts any longer. If any of you are experiencing the same, please call B.V. And voice your concerns over this new pricing.

Wow. I would just take the candy out first but I totally agree with you. We are in it to make money for our businesses and ourselves, not for someone else's business.

If a company tried that with me, my friendly attitude would quickly change. MY machines, MY investment, MY time, and you want me to take at loss PURELY at my expense while you still get a commission?

I can think of a phrase that comes to mind... It starts with "Go..." And ends with "...yourself."

BV called me in Nov to pick up a couple of 3 burner brewers. Never done anything for them and it was simple enough. Picked them up and billed them. They only paid 45 hr and 25 hr for second hr. Way below my normal rate but what the heck. Billed them and after 60 days I get a check. These guys are a class act. They deducted $2.65 for administration fees. Really WT***. I still have the brewers because they wanted me to pay for shipping. Hell no. Plus while I was still waiting on payment on the first bill they sent me another call for a water leak. So now they owe me more. I am not going to say anything until I have my money and if they want these brewers shipped that won't happen until I am paid in full.

I will be sending them a late payment charge (my invoices say pay on receipt.)  So since they decided to deduct $2.65 the invoice isn't paid. Setting on 76 days. A charge of 10% a month and storage for brewers. I have possesion so lets see how they like them apples. I am doing this because they have no problem screwing the little guys. Might have a couple of nice 3 burners for sale,  ;D  ;D  ;D

Who the hell still sells candy bars for 75 cents at the register? Try a buck and a quarter (and it's going up!)

What the hell... When I hire my mover to do something, he sends ME the bill.  After I get the bill, I PAY HIM IN FULL.  He will wait a few days if I don't have cash on me for some reason but that's because he knows I will pay him IN FULL.  I can only imagine having him do something and then saying "Oh, well I decided that I will only pay you THIS much instead."  I can guarantee you that it's going to come back to bite me in the butt.

I have ONE account through a vending management company (Vending Group) and they have never given me any crap at all.  They just want their commission and they leave me alone.  I was even late one time and they didn't care as long as I sent it in (they could have charged me extra).  On the other hand, "National Vending Management" or whatever they are called tried to get me to PAY THEM COMMISSION for an account that I had before they took over the contract (to my knowledge).  I wasn't offended that they wanted me to pay a commission for an account they had a contract to, I was offended that they wanted me to replace my machines with new full-size machines, put THEIR marketing on the equipment, AND pay them a commission for doing absolutely nothing.  I told them that I wasn't going to do that and they said they would call me when they found someone to place machines there and I said I would gladly remove mine when I got that call... and 3 years later, I still haven't received that phone call!

Best Vendors.......that's an oxymoron if there ever was one!

I had a university account years ago that I acquired through a cold call. The university was great to work with and I never had any issues. After a couple of years, I was informed that they were turning over the vending management to Best Vendors. At that point in time, Best Vendors was still a privately owned company.

I had to sign a sub contractors agreement with Best Vendors to keep the account but found them good to work with as the pricing and commission structure was actually better for me than the original contract I had with the university and they were pleasant to do business with. All I needed to send them each month was an accounting of the total sales of each machine along with the commission check.

Well, little more than a year passes and I get a call from Best Vendors telling me that there are new changes taking affect. They would now need a full accounting of every single item in the machines, what the brand name was, the coil location, how many of each item sold etc. In addition, they needed me to raise the pricing above and beyond what the current market pricing was for vending machine items and all service calls regarding the machines had to go through a call center and then I would be notified regarding the problem.

I was quite puzzled as to why the sudden change but complied. The next month, I picked up a current issue of Vending Times and read they Best Vendors had been acquired by Compass Group "Canteen". The writing was on the wall as to why they wanted all that product detail. Sure enough, within a year or so, Canteen took the account.

All I can say to you cvending and rmorris1953....."sleep with Devil and you will get burned". My "Little Johnson" had to find out the hard way how that organization operates.

It isn't no skin off my butt. I won't get in bed with them. I don't have to. I will be sending them a new bill for storage of $1.00 a day soon and a 10% charge per month for late payment.

They can't hurt me. I don't have any customers who use them. What they do to the little guy is wrong. And should be illegal! >:D  >:D  >:D .

I read in Vending Times That they were facing possible lawsuits from several vendors over the cancellation of contracts and handing them over to Canteen.

I called my lawyer and he said that I definately had a case but because the amount of loss in income from the account would be basis of what amount we would ask for in the lawsuit, it wasn't enough to justify the time and effort to persue it.

I dropped it and learned a valuable lesson about dealing with vending management companies and the ethics (or lack of) of Canteen.

Yes, it very well could be illegal but sometimes you just have to cut bait.

Need to get other vendors that have been harmed and pool together. It isn't a level playing field even when it comes to cost of product. They know very well it cost .65 to buy a snickers bar and to demand you sell it for .75 and then pay them 10% is just crazy. They (Canteen) don't do it.

Yes, the big guy!

They took over the vending at my previous work place of 32 years, (freedom)!

Well a certain cajun will get the pleasure of replacing them.

I hate vend management companies. Funny about Best Vendors as they are owned by the Compass Group which also owns Canteen.

The really, really, really funny thing is that Best Vendors and Canteen freaking *hate* each other. ( Even though they have the same owner. ) When I was in [redacted] working at [redacted], BV *fined* Canteen for having the wrong product in a Target.

*Fined.*

*Themselves.*

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. You give Best Vendors a good reason to get Canteen kicked out of a location, and they will.

All that aside, I'll second your hatred for vending management companies. Bloodsuckers, the lot of them. They skim some of the profit off for no other reason than they've talked some company into letting them "run" their vending program.

Worse yet is when the management company cant manage and locations don't get the commission that YOU paid to the management company. I have had that issue a few times over the years. Latest is a vend management company that bought out a big crane operator, pieced the business out to operators, and proceeded to totally screw everything up. By screw up I mean forget to renew contracts, fail to pay commissions, fail to forward repair requests. A whole bunch of operators are really getting screwed by these guys.

And the unfortunate part is the company that signed the contract with vend management will blame the operator for the problems.

One of the lessons I have learned in this business is that it is more important to know when to TURN DOWN AN OFFER TO DO BUSINESS than accept one! My advice is to stay away from sub contracting with vend managament companies.....I had to learn my lesson and will not make that mistake again.

In hindsight, it's a shame you didn't tell them the whole thing was full of baked chips and Moose Dung Bars (Nature Valley)  ;D  ;D  ;D
