OUCH!

I was servicing one of my bulk units on the "old" route today (the one on the right, which needed a new sticker on the front) and I see that my neighbor from another vendor is now in really bad shape. Back at the start of June I saw the kids that haunt this location busted the clutch on the center mech so it spins backwards- which they've pretty much emptied out now. The real kicker is the one on the right has been busted off inside somehow, pulling the mech handle out a ways. Sadly, this guy doesn't have any contact info on his gear, and evidently checks this spots less often than I do. I raised the issue to the location, who said they'd do something about it, though this is not the first time they've left busted gear on the floor. Another chilling addition to the ever-expanding list of reasons to swap your cheap import mechs off of your metal triples if you've got em. Northwestern mechs aren't nearly as cheap, but as this guy is about to learn, cheap mechs can be expensive in the long run.

The moral of the story is, buy quality if you can, and if you can't at least get decent coin mechs. Additionally, TAG YOUR GEAR. If nobody can contact you about a problem, it will be much worse for you in the long run.

The 2 stickers on top? Not his tags?

That looks like an old lypc machine. I have one that is yellow!

The thing on top has a business name, and a blurb on what charity they support. I did a search for them and came up empty though.

It was probably these kids!!! Lol I was watching a video on how a quick shot operates since I have never had one and this video was the next video on the list. The machine in the video is a NW Super 60 and they get a whole bag! I would be pissed if this was my machine. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GEAWV-YruQw. I like how the kids in this video are so dumb they call it a "trick" no the machine is just broken!

What a disturbing video!  The girl at the end says, "be a gum thief, be a gum thief".  So it's OK to steal from a vending machine, post a video of it, brag about it and encourage others to steal.  Wonder if the parents are laughing also?  Sure, it's a petty action in the grand picture of things - and the machine mech was broken.  But still.   Just another sign of a once great nation in decline, IMHO.

I know! It really is very disturbing some kid telling all these people, anytime you see a bubble gum machine steal from it! There is obviously no parenting there and I agree it's a sign of the nation in decline.

I can't find it now (not that it needs any more exposure), but I saw a video once of a guy going through how to mix up salt water to fry older snack machines. In the video, the guy says "...and if you don't get free stuff, you still break the machine!" like it's some sort of funny thing to fry equipment. For whatever reason, many people seem to have it in their head that vending machines just "appear" out of the aether, and that they are controlled by some vast, faceless entity, so it's okay to beat on equipment and try to steal from it- because they're only hurting "the man!" in their mind.

People don't seem to get that we're, well, you know, honest entrepreneurs trying to make increasingly slim margins meet in an increasingly difficult market, in the worst economic depression in 100 years. There's no good way to explain that to them either.

I don't get it, but I suppose from this side of the "wall" I never will. Oh well...

Did he get anything out of the machine? That's just sad that he thinks that's ok but it's the world we live in. I guess peoples mentality is that they never see the person servicing the machine so they aren't really affecting anyone. Maybe they think all vending machines are owned by large corporations and want to stick it to the man.

Yes he did, though he had to track down one of these old machines to do it. Not too many of those old ones like that left out there anymore, which makes it even more awful that they'd fry what's now considered an antique. It's just sickening.

Is that a national?

Is that a national?

Man I had one of those babies back in the 90s. You would put your money in and pull the knob, and bam! Product drops. No jams, no hangups...I loved it.

I believe so. I see them crop up on CL every now and again, but they're usually pretty beat up around here. Still nice machines for low-traffic locations that you want to sell candy bars in, or so I'm told. Certainly a step up from a mechanical unit.

You know its funny that I saw this video. I tried taking one of my machines I found in a auction last week to the flea market with me. I made about $40 in a day with it there, until I saw a little girl trying to do the same thing to my machine, only it would only give her 1 pieces of bulk candy extra. When I went in to stop her her big ugly mother quickly yelled back and said she can do whatever she wants. I told her to leave or I'd call security. They left but it was more upsetting that a parent would approve of it.
