What machine is this, and what would be better?

Recommended Posts

I am looking into picking up an account.  I must have accidentally deleted the picture with the serial number, etc. info on it.

This machine is in a bank break room.  It is a can machine and does about 750 vends per month.  Cost is $0.25 per can to employees and management cuts a check for $0.50 per can at the end of the month.

The current guy is servicing the account once or twice per week.  My goal would be to get it to the point where it can be serviced every other week.  So, I was thinking a higher capacity machine with the flexibility to adjust quantity per slot.  The current machine has 9 selections.  I'm not certain that's necessary, but not too sure I want to eliminate any choices on a new account, either.

I am also wondering if anyone has used a credit card machine on this type of inexpensive vend.  I wouldn't think it would help sales at all, but I could be completely wrong.  (I mean, who can't find a quarter laying around in a bank when they want to buy a soda?)

That might be a Royal 660 as it looks 72" tall.  At .25 you won't find a machine that will allow you to stretch the service out that far.  You'd be making a killing with the subsidized arrangement so it's well worth your time to service it more often.  You also don't want to risk the arrangement by stretching out the service and ticking them off when it sells out.  This is the single best way to create high volume and you don't want to screw it up.  You also don't want to do any card readers on a machine priced under $1 as the fees will kill all your profits.

First this sounds like a great opportunity depending on price for the account. Like AZV said I you will not be able to go that far between services. You can look at the Dixie Narco 756 to get a little more capacity. You might get it down to once a week but I wouldn't let it sell down to much between services where they are running out of certain selections. This will put you at risk loosing the account.

Subsidized accounts are great and not many around to be had.

You could try the Royal 804.  With a capacity of 804 cans you might get to an every other week schedule.  Theoretically it's possible but you might find yourself running low on the best sellers. The Royal 804 has 10 selections across 12 columns with 4 columns coupled to the same 2 selections to better handle your best sellers.  At 25 cents per vend, Card Readers are a no go and I'd experiment with a once a week schedule until I had a firm grip on the actual product flow.

Royal 650

I have one just like it.

Still a good machine.

Yep, that was what I was thinking - the overlay around the coin slot looks like it's a Merlin IV. Definitely a machine to hang onto even if the OP does get a larger machine.

Nope, the Pegasus series machines from Dixie Narco (P series) will give you nothing but trouble.

AZ is correct. It is a nightmare for a beginner! The first p series board came out with a normal mode button for setting prices and all the options like a S11 D had. Then there was a really small button below that one that you used to setup the machine type and model. With all the different model numbers you would have to scroll through them. The controller  had a slow response so sometimes you would overshoot it and have to start all over. Rt drivers weren't able to do it so because of the lack of training it created service calls. So D/N in their brilliant ways of thinking decide to do away with the mode button for configuration.  :o  :o

So I go out on a service call to replace board. As expected when firing up board setup comes up and first thing set model and overshoot. Go to configuration button not there. Can't reset it so what now. My thought was Ok just pull battery and I do then I was able to get it setup right. So I called D/N and asked them what happened to the button. They said the drivers were hitting it and they removed it. I asked them so how do you reset it? You have to pull battery. Really :o  :o You realize when pulling battery you have just cleared all the meters right?

Give me Vendo V21's anyday.

Not to mention corroded vend sensors, leaking Danfoss units, bad condensing fan motors, bad low pressure switches (why are they even on this?) and a recurring column problem that I can't remember specifically.

I would not be totally opposed to putting a cc reader on this machine as long as you do two tier pricing (.10 per swipe).  I know, it sounds crazy because who doesn't have a quarter laying around.....  I have a subsidized account where basic soft drinks are .25 and people still use their cc to buy them even though it costs them .10 cents extra.  Based on a 6% transaction fee, you'd be making a $.085 profit each time they used their cc.  It also sounds like you are trying to extend your refill times and this would allow you to monitor your sales and refill when it is actually needed.  The monitoring fee may be $10-15 per month.  Would you be willing to pay up to $4/week for inventory peace of mind?
