Vending Misers

Hello all,

I've received a complaint about my machine's compressor running a lot in the account's office, which is quite small.  They also said it was causing the room to heat up a bit.  I was looking at the vending miser VM2IQ solution and I was thinking about ordering that.  What are your thoughts on it?  Any other less expensive ideas?  Would switching from fluorescent bulbs to LEDs help at all?

Thanks for your help!

If your machine is/was a former Coke machine then the lamps are high output and run real hot. If not high output then the lights don't put out much heat. The compressor will still put out the most heat though. This room must be really small with no a/c in it as most rooms don't get hot from a soda machine. The vending misers work pretty well but if there's regular traffic in the room all day then it might not give them the heat savings they want.

You could just put a timer on it and turn it off when they are closed and back on a couple of hours before they arrive. Compressors cycle about 15 min on and 15 min off Once they have cooled down. Make sure condenser is clean at all times and it will run a bit cooler. Make sure there is plenty of space behind vendor so air can circulate well.

The account has been extremely generous to me and I really want to retain it and keep the machine beneficial for everyone.

How much does this account generate

It did $35.25 gross from 6 Aug to 15 Aug.

I think it was Pepsi, I bought it refurbished with the decals removed and a new signface. The room is very small and I'm not sure they have A/C...

There's plenty of space behind it for air circulation.  Wouldn't the timer just cause the compressor to run a ton before they opened?

$35.25 in 9 days is pretty low revenue. I wouldn't go to much effort for an account like that. I am going to assume they did not have a drink machine before you installed one so they cant be but so pickey about what is there.

Maybe what they really need is one of those stand alone A/C units - no  A/C in Georgia sounds nuts to me.

The reason why I asked about their revenue is because I got the impression that you can't reasonably fix this problem. It's a decent account if it's just canned soda.

The problem I see is this. By itself, a soda machine won't heat up an entire office. And, if the office is one open space, then there should be a thermostat in the room somewhere that controls the temperature. If it's set too warm, that's their problem. If the thermostat is somewhere else and they lack proper ventilation, that's their problem.

Putting a vening miser on the machine could be problematic if someone wants a soda and it's warm. Then, they'll complain that it's not cold. Do they'll ask you to use your wizard skills to find a way to keep the soda cold while also having the compressor off. Since that can't work, they'll ask for a newer machine. It will never end.

Keep this in mind: a Vending machine, alone, shouldn't be able to heat up an office. Their thermostat might be set too high or they might not have adequate ventilation.

I just can't see someone trying to convince me that the Vending machine is heating up an entire office.

  • 2 weeks later...

and vend misers suck they can lock up a machine if it shuts down then someone walks in front of it before the bored a chance to shut down and definitely  don't use them with card readers

My guess is nothing you can do to the machine will stop the complaints only waste your time and money then they will find a new complaint.

I think the best thing to do is get the machine out of the office and into the warehouse.
