Do Health Issues Ever Cause Vending Issues?

I recently got the flu pretty bad, then stung by a bee the same day I finally got better (which sucks, because I'm allergic and it was yet another week before I could walk again, 2 weeks total down time).

This caused me to push my 4 week cycle machines into 6 weeks, and that wasn't the best idea I've ever had :(  (some machines completely empty, got a call from an A+ location that was disappointed I let the machine go empty, etc.)

What do you guys do when things like health issues happen?  I'm assuming a lot of us are 1 man/woman companies (at least I am) and I was sort of lost when I got sick.  I could of asked my wife, but she honestly doesn't know the first thing about cleaning a cotton candy machine or where any of my tools are etc. etc.

What do you guys do???  Just let the route take the hit and then come back stronger?  Have a friend run the route?  Just don't get sick?

Depends on the locations, machine makeup, etc. For most of my gear, I've dragged my brother along on enough runs that he has the "gist" of how things are run, and could probably run it in the event I got hit by a bus or something.

For you (and any guys with more "complex" equipment that you can't necessarilly talk less mechancially-savvy family through) I wouldn't think it would be unreasonable to give your locations a heads up as to what has happened to you. I can only think of one location on my roster that wouldn't be understanding- but at least then everyone is "in the know". If people are left without information, they'll start drawing their own conclusions, and that's when you can get into (more) trouble.

Glad to hear you're feeling better at least- the flu is bad enough, but a bee sting is just insult to injury! Sometimes it seems like the world is out to get you! ;)

Time to get the wife trained.  Sorry, I should have prefaced that with the fact that I completely understand your situation and feel for you.  This is the biggest fear of a single man operation.  That and how to take a vacation.  At least you can plan for a vacation.  I'm glad you're back on your feet now.  You will find that the accounts you have the best relationships with will understand the best.  Now, time to get the wife trained.
