Anyone else notice chains pulling machines out?

I know that the "new" buzzword in retail (or at least the sector of retail I'm in) is "Sight Lines". The notion is that you keep things organized and "simplified" to keep customers focused on buying more stuff. Whatever firm cooked it up I'm sure made a fortune. The store I work for took the hand sanitizer stand and trash cans out of the entryway to improve our "sight lines", so I'm sure if we'd had bulk machines I'm sure they'd have gotten the boot too.

I noticed that the Shopko retail chain around here got rid of their machines in the last few months too.

Yes dollar general eliminated vending. Since they are now selling cigarettes and liquor ( where they can) they didn't want the bulk. They were a pain anyway. There were some really good ones but they always moved the machines to corners or the back, so even the good ones did poorly.

Yea the trend is disturbing.  More chains are cutting back or eliminating bulk around here.  Newly built businesses have fewer vending machines of any kind.  Many new restaurants that traditionally had electronic and bulk vending are no longer placing any type of machines in their establishment.  Just went to a new Ale House recently built here (under new ownership) and there was ZERO vending in the new restaurant - no bulk, no cranes, no jukebox, no pool tables, no video, no chickens - ZIPPO vending!  Many of the older restaurants have significantly cut back on all vending as well.  I guess the new owners figure that the floor space is better utilized (and profitable) for more tables or bar seats for paying customers!

Plus mom-and-pop places around here continue to dwindle only to be replaced by more corporate chains.  No more trickle down for the little guy in this town I guess.

Seems like charity vending with singles and doubles is a better option now going forward.  Easier to just place a single head gumball machine in "under the radar" and hope the corporate types don't notice it!
