Help! Globe Question?

So I finally setup my first Oak Vista machine with a 300 globe. I run all NW's so this has been an interesting change. Well I was filling the brand new globe with candy and picked it up by the corner and heard a crack. The globe cracked in the front corner, a deep crack that runs about an half an inch down or so and a smaller crack about 3 inches down. I can't believe just by lifting it off the ground a few inches it cracked, cheap plastic I guess. Should I let this bother me? Do I need to replace it? Do you have machines out there that have cracks like this? I have a litle bit of OCD especially when it comes to this business, machines looking good etc. Just so pissed right now.

When new globes crack, it's usually because the screws are too tight between the globe and the machine. You want it on there good, but not so tight it stresses the plastic.

I operate a lot of machines with less than perfect globes. I usually turn the sides with the cracks to the back or sides, so that the "best" side faces the customer. Most cracks won't really affect the globe too much, beyond appearances. Once they get filled with product most cracks are less noticeable too.

It was fine until I picked it up with candy in it. I've grabbed the corner of Super 60's dozens of time and no problem but this was an issue. I did have it on the best side because it was an A&A globe, bubbles, marks etc but now I don't know about that lol. It's not horrible I guess, especially when it's full but I know it's there which bugs me. Ohh well, I guess it won't stop someone from getting a handful of runts lol. I wanted it to get it ready for tomorrow since I will be a the location for work but this just hasn't been my day.

Oh, it's an A&A globe? that makes sense. Their globes are somewhat more brittle than other brands (but also better than others, SSF...), but still more fragile than the NW globes you're used to. Sorry to hear it man. :(

Hopefully you can make the globe work out for you though- cracks aren't nearly as detrimental to sales as other problems like yellowing would be. Good luck!

I've come to realize this, cheap crap!!!! It's all good, it happens but I am one of those people who like something to look it's best if it has my name on it to look like a pile of dog crap lol. I will say I have some machines that are worse than this. Less than perfect lids I didn't feel like painting etc. Thanks though Alex, glad you think it will hold up! lol

You play the cards you're dealt today, to build the route you want tomorrow. ;)

I somehow ended up with about 20 oaks, and I gotta say I'm liking them a lot. No globe problems like you're having, and you can't beat the price and availability even used. Don't write them off so quick...tho I won't lie NW does make some great machines

I like them, it's just the globes you get from A&A are a piece of crap. The Oak vista is great for a single! I just dropped it off today and it looks great besides my cracked globe lol.

So what is the consensus on A&A machines?

From this forum I have read about cracked globes, yellowed globes, cheap paint, and even recently people saying their coin mechs aren't worth it. I'm sure they are still much better than other imports, but I also hear them being consistently mentioned as being some of the best.

From the veterans what are your opinions?

PN 95s are a step below the Northwestern Super 60s that they are a copy of, in terms of both reliability and fit & finish.

PO 89s are functionally equivalent to Oaks that they are a copy of. That being said, my PO 89s are 5-10 years old, I've heard that that quality has dropped lately.

Northwestern recently went up on the price of their globes to I think $14-15, A & A globes are still $8 and change which makes them the better value even though they are lesser quality.

Pretty much. A&A gear is somewhat cheaper, but it's not quite as high quality as the machines they're copies of. Functionally, A&A gear will get you where you need to go better than stuff from a "no name" manufacturer. If you need value, and aren't afraid of a few inconsistencies and rough edges here and there, A&A machines will work great for you.
