Glasco 159D

Recommended Posts

I'm looking to purchase an inexpensive dual spiral snack machine and found a Glasco 159D on Craigslist. It's a 5 wide and I only need a 4 but the offered price is $500.00. Please reply with your comments about this machine. I read here that's it's basically a National 148 but some of the part are exclusive to Glasco. I don't have enough experience yet to do my own repairs so that would also be an issue if this model is prone to failures. Thanks in advance for your help.

I have not seen the machine yet but I also saw in the picture it's listed as a GS-1, if this helps.

Whoever is selling it apparently doesn't know jack about vending machines.  The 159 was in production in 1998 long after the 148 and the GS1 were built.  The GS-1 was the Glasco equivalent of the National 148.  The GS-1 used many of the same parts as the 148 except the logic board and keypad.  The 159 also uses most of the same parts as what was in National machines in 1998 but the logic board was different.  $500 is a good price if all is working properly.  I will say that the original logic boards in these were very prone to failure but if this one is working well you are probably okay.

I would imagine it's a gs-1 but he's saying it's a 159 because it looks similar. I think, with a national door, almost every non-electronic part in there is identical to a 147/148. I like mine, they just won't clean up as nice.

The GS1 and GS2 will not accept the inone aftermarket board. The size of the boards is different and most importantly the motor harness is different.

I tried.

I never liked the one i had. The coin mech and bv had to be adjusted to the proper voltage and stuff and it would fail every now and then.

I recently got the chance to deal with some Crane 158 and wanted to show the Glasco GS1 sometimes referred to as a Glasco 159. Often I have seen and heard the Glasco is just like a Crane 147-it's not-it's like a 157/158. I'm still not sure how or if it's possible to add Crane components to the Glasco cabinet and clone a Crane yet. Keep in mind the Glasco does not have a service keypad it has a pull out door switch with very simple programming you must use pulse validator and dumb mech. Maybe a Crane board,Crane keypad overlay and Crane service keypad could be added? I'm still not sure.

I was about to upload pics of the Glasco insides since a lot of people have never actually seen one but the images from my phone apparently need to be re-sized.

The 159 (GPL) uses most of the same parts as the 157/158. We used to convert the GPL's to the NV by swapping the eprom, button overlay and adding a service switch pad. Depending on vintage the Surevend/posivend where different as well. After swapping the parts the only difference would then be the door.

The Glasco was kinda the same thing, kinda.

Ok

It can be done!

Last night I decided to give it a shot and it worked. Parts needed are a Crane 158/157 door switch, service keypad and keypad overlay. Since this machine was on location I decided to use a Crane board and remove the Glasco board completely. It may be able to be converted but I didn't want to spend that much time trying to figure things out while it was sitting on location.
