STRENGTHS - Good product visibility - Small footprint takes up less space than rack WEAKNESSES - Plastic, plastic, plastic... Coin mechs and flaps, I have had so many break Ive lost count - Stand will become un-level and loosen over time - Coin collection hard, sharp metal in body causes scraped hands. - Way overpriced - Many spoils, locations just cant sell that much product. BUY AGAIN? No. Put it this way, I had a guy selling a u turn 4 select at $29 in good condition and I passed. THEY WANTED $600 FOR A TERMINATOR...YES, JUST ONE MACHINE AND LOCATING WOULD COST ADDIT'L $70. I EXPLAINED THAT THIS WAS NEW TO ME BUT THEY GAVE ME NUMBERS ..BLAH..BLAH...BLAH... antoniocinisi Posted November 15, 2007 Share Posted November 15, 2007 they work fine for me.i do have 7 8 vends but wont buy anymore.it is hard to find a location that will vend that much.of course u can half fill the containers though too. plastic mechs arent an issue in some locations no unlevel stands for me but i dont see why u cant loosen the nut and readjust collection isnt too simple on an 8 vend,4 are easier way overpriced if u buy new 2 words for you:ebay baby product wont spoil if u dont top them to thhe rim in an under selling location Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Ronzo Posted February 6, 2008 Share Posted February 6, 2008 Put my two cents in on the U turns. I personally like the uturns. I though bought all mine on Ebay. and watched what I paid. Had one gal in Long Beach CA that I bought 2 new 8's from and she wanted out of the business and called up and wanted to know if I wanted 10 more used ones for $1000. I said sure. Problem is though, finding the right spot for the 8's. So now I start with a four and only move up to a 8 if it does $35.00 a month or more. Some locations that have done well for me are the following: #1 is a taxi company. If they have 50 to 100 cabs, it is a winner #2 is a a chili's restuarant, a trailer sales lot (large) in the parts department, community college, care homes, car dealers (but sales people like to play with your machines), most of these have 8's and others get 4's. As long as I get $25 out of a four, I seem to be happy. Taxi company give me about $160 a month and have to service it every week. Others are on a 4-6 week service schedule. Hope that helps. I bought u-turn 8's(eliminators) direct from the factory(oh well) I have 15 machines on the street and the second month in they averaged $40.00 a machine....I have moved tow of the machines to new locations and they should increase my7 average between 6-10 dollars. I like these machines..I have found them time consuming to service...I can only service 16-20 per day tops... If I get into any conversation at all. I have not found "sharp' edges in the interiors to be a concern..The plastic mechs have not been a concern yet...I hope not soon... Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
West Coast Vend LLC Posted June 5, 2008 Share Posted June 5, 2008 The U-turn is an interesting machine because of all the selections it offers the customers. It seems like it would be good in select locations with larger than normal foot traffic. It's probably a good machine to have in your mix of vending machines but not for every account. I would think that it is way to much inventory for small locations. It sounds like it is not the easiest to service which causes time issues if your route in big. So many people think the triples are to much to handle so 8 heads is, well... I have seen one so far in my area in an animal hospital waiting room. Ronzo Posted June 10, 2008 Share Posted June 10, 2008 Jay-son, Just carry extra of the plastic coin mech's with you so you can replace on the spot if one is broken. (You can pick them up off Ebay) Problem is, because they are plastic, the wheel itself cracks, sometimes the clog breaks etc. It far easier to replace on the spot and take the broken one back home and fix. You can order extra parts straight from U-Turn and keep them at home. I promise you, they will break. So be prepared! Learn how to take one apart and be able to fix it. Will save you much time. I dont think so.it`ll be more likely that you can sadisfy more costumers because you can offer more choice,but most customers can find 1 choice out of three that they like. I have one of my four tops set to sell 3 candy and one toy.I have another one that sells all toys. I have an 8 vend that sells toys up top, because of the bigger canisters and candy on the bottom,which imo it`s the best way these machines can be utilized. they are hard to service,but can go for a while before needing it. I have found that most of the people I talk with and locations I set these in are impressed with the different design and the multiple selections... That said...Places should be "busy" because the amount of product in the machine leaves open the chance that some products will not vend well in any particular location...I have 15 locations and each is a little different as to what sells...In about six months I should know what the "perfect" mix is for each location... NOW..your other question...INCOME...because of the selection each product appears to be under the national average..BUT the machine/location take(again because of the selection) aftr two months is between $40-$45 per location.. Atthis rate I will be a in the average of paying for the machines in about 10-12 months for the ones I bought new and within 6 months of the ones I buy used. New uturns from the local distributor are approx A$800 each for a new 4 select machine. I purchased 20 new ones to start of with and the balance i have purchased as used for between A$200 to A$300. I wish i could purchase a container of vending machines fron the US what you guys pay for machines there are absolute peanuts hahaha to what most of us have to pay for quality American machines here. If you're going to spend so much to have a machine sent out there it should last a long long time. Check NW or Oak. reel Posted January 31, 2009 Share Posted January 31, 2009 Based on our experience to date it takes us no more than 10 mins to service a 4 select uturn, slightly more for a 8 select although it depends whether you have to change a coin mech or canister etc. We have found that an 8 select on a site definitely increases the monthly turnover, all of our 8 selects are sited in Pubs ( bars in the usa) and lunchrooms of major retailers the monthly turnover for our 8 selects is between A$75 to just over A$200 per month. In the 8 selects we carry a range of candy which some vend for a $1 and some for .2o cents like gumballs in the bars we also vend 1 inch toy capsules and bouncy balls it sure is working for us. The sharp bits you refer to in the uturns is simply the screws in the bottom, place blue tack under your coin containers and this will stop them from moving and coins from falling into the base of the uturn. Regarding the stande not being even and not level, lay it on its side and tighten nut under stand problem fixed. What i do like about the uturn is its capacity to carry a wider range and its small floor footprint, yes its more expensive but we find its a great machine overall. Coin mechs do break we simply change them onsite, just one screw to remove and fix at home at a later date. At times we do have mechs that are deliberately broken to steal the canister contents, this usually only happens where the machines are in a public place like a bar where it can get rougher treatment, thank goodness its not that frequent though. I understand on the grapevine that a $2 coin mech is being trialled at present. Generally for a 4 select uturn we use 3 $1 coin mechs and 1 20c mech, i dont use 40c mechs at all. I have both 4 and 8 select machines and like the design except for more time to service and not always easy to get the quarters out. The big 8 select machines I feel are a big advantage in that I can load them up with 1" capsules. Sorta like a vertical rack in one square foot of space. You just don't place one in every location but when you have the right spot they're great. Antonio is right on the 12 select machines.
