Anyone else using a website? I'm going to give it a try....I plan on using the site to capture local leads......I'd be interested to see if anyone has a site up and running....I'll post updated along the way, as well as if it's effective or not :)

Guess that should be Biting, not bitting :)

I had one when I first got started and let it go after about a year-and-a-half in.

It just wasn't beneficial to my business...at least not enough to justify even a little cost.

Looking back, I don't think my business was helped in the least by having a website.

Nor do I believe my business was hurt any by shutting it down.

Full-line vendors would probably get better use out of an online presence than bulk vendors.

My website didn't generate much new business on its own but it was an excellent tool for when I was out locating. Almost everyone asked for my website so they could "see what I had to offer" and make a decision in their own time.

A website for bulk vending shouldn't be expected to generate new locations through search but rather as an extension of your current marketing materials such as business cards or flyers. It does add a level of credibility to your business that may be difference in landing a larger account. I personally refuse to do business with local service companies, such as electricians and carpet cleaners, that do not have a website, or worse yet, a poorly designed one.

I'm going to use the site and try to drive leads from ebay classifieds, backpage and craigslist, and a few other places....I guess this will be an interesting experiment..

Perhaps if it pans out I can start a new business building websites for leads for other vendors :)

I can tell you first hand that there is no market on TVF for selling web design services. Don't ask me how I know. :)

Sounds intriguing. If someone has a site, post the web address so we can check it out. I am currently in the middle of designing one and would love to know what features you love about your sites and what you wish you added or would do differently if creating it today.

OK! I spent about 1 hour today and whipped up a site :) I have a good bit more to add to the site thought....certainly happy to get some feedback...keep in mind, most the text I threw up...I'll go back through and add/edit etc....Also gonna add a live support button and some other items...that way, my locations can go to the website and send me messages of issues etc, or even chat live

Prospects can use a calendar system and set appts as well

Excellent, do you ever get contacts etc from the website?

Well truthfully I only built it about a month ago and haven't leveraged it except as a tool to add to my credibility. I am eventually going to try and use some geo-targeted marketing but not doing that yet.

I also can't get yours to open up?

rdendy which web building tool did you use? Was it a free site? I'm thinking of building my own soon.

I used WordPress to keep it simple, It was free because I am a web designer and did it myself and I have a server I use for personal projects and my clients so the hosting space was free for me as well.

I just put up my website, it was free to set up in Ohio. http://www.gybo.com/ohio/

I am not expecting much out of it other than to promote myself as a real business.

To be honest with you , I am tickled that I actually got it up. I am not a computer expert

and I'm just having a great time with learning. I really liked the >> www.in1prod.com <<website !

I thought about doing a listing for all my locations but then thought how a competitor could pull my list and give him easy targets for places who use vendors. Just something to think about.

I have my website hosted by an outside company. It is almost time to renew the service for the year. I'm considering dropping it since it does me no good. The only reason I really have it is because it also hosts my record-keeping database.

  • 1 year later...

I think a website is handy. Keep it simple and don't spend more money than you have to. Keep it simple. Wordpress is great, you can start a free site with them to play around with and then when your ready, buy the domain and install wordpress. There are alot of nice themes to choose from in wordpress also.
