thinking about getting a coin pusher

so far we have only done bulk candy , but we have looked at other entertainment ideas ( breathalizer , cranes , now coin pusher ) as well . im not even sure where to start here ,so any advice would be greatly appreciated . ive done some searching , but so far only find sites that want to sell me something ( what a suprise ! ) ive seen the machines that have a candy top ( i assume this gets me past the "gambling" part ? ) . one of the biggest questions i have is , how do you initially fill it , and how do you know how much coin to take out on a service ? thanks in advance for advice and suggestions . if anyone has a link to more info , or a suggested pusher model id love to hear it .

first you need to check your state laws, many states crack down hard on these things, some states is a grey area, in florida i had a

friend who is a state attorney check into it and he said its a grey area and it will depend how the sherrif in each county wants to address it. i have found some counties are very strict some dont care at all. the candy top, in some states if the game doesnt dispense

a prize every time its gambling so theres the candy top. in florida this isnt needed but most operators use it so i use it too. most operators put a note something like "candy 25c ,deposit money in the machine, 1 free play with candy purchase". if the cops want to

bust you that wont stop them lol bust most cases they will seize the machine and leave their card with the store owner. personally i try to place these in kid-unfriedly places like tobacco shop, liquor store, c-store,etc.. where kids are not likely to play them. also i put a note "must be over 18 to play". does that really matter? no but less chance of kids losing a bunch of money and complaining to parents who call the sheriff.

how much $ to take out is easy, theres slots on the side of the pusher play field, they are hard to see unless ur looking for them

when the coins push forward coins will fall in these slots and into the bottom of the machine, i call the the "rake" like in poker, ive heard

it call "the house bucket" also.

anyway this is the profit you make from the pusher, you split any money that falls there with ur location. I do a 50/50 split, most operators do that. also i put a towel at the bottom in a platic bin to make collection easier and so the quarters dont make an audible "plunk" when they drop in the bottom this keeps customers from noticing the rake.

dont take any money off the playfield. some pushers have adjustable covers over these slots

that control how big the opening is. this adjusts the profit but also the payout of the pusher, the more closed they are, the more money

gets paid out because theres more forward pressure on the coins, but the less money u get from the rake. this is the only complaint i have on the "blazin quarters" pusher theres no way to adjust this. i use a piece of cardboard jammed in there to make the opening smaller. most pushers pay out something between 30-50% to the customer. remember, if they arent winning they wont play and most customers just dump their winnings right back into the machine. especially if you have good bait on the playfield like a $100 , $20 or chinese "bling" watches.

to fill up the pusher I use about $150-200 worth of quarters, you have to stack them in a particular way which is hard to explain. plus

i dont know how much i want to give away about coin pushers on an open forum.. suffice it to say you dont just dump the quarters

on the field, like how it looks, they have to be arranged correctly. once ive baited the bottom field i bait the sliding tray and then usually play about $30-50 worth of quarters thru the machine, this gets the action going, once i start seeing payout, i put the rolled dolalrs in there (dont lay the dollars flat or they wont be winnable) and close it up.

i cant recommend enough the blazing quarters pusher.ive used mcgreggors and various knock-offs i like that the best mainly

because of the coin mech system and the small size that makes it easy to move. you should bolt the pusher to the floor or wall

because they have a tendancy to sprout legs if not bolted.

dogcow ,

i cant thank you enough for the response . that is some WONDERFUL information . thankyou . I cant stress enough how greatful i am to you ,and every experienced vendor , who shares information like this . expereince is priceless . im definately in the "expolring" stage of things . id like to get one soon ,get it home and feild strip it for fun ( yeah im strange like that ) so i know it inside and out . i definately like the " kid un-friendly " thought . i was thinking sports bars and pub type locations . again ,thanks ALOT

i see them in some bars, i wont put them in a bar because it would get beaqt up too much by the drunks

my suggestion buy a cheap used one off craigs list, i got a bunch of mcgreggor knock offs for $300 ea , i would

pay $300-400 for a used pusher u make the money back in a month or so easily.

put it in ur garage and play it a lot , you will get the hang of how they work fairly quick. as far as "field strip" there

is not much inside. basically a 12v motor, power supply/transformer and some wiring to the alarm/trap door system and a off the shelf light.

the blazin quarter have an electrical coin mech like a crane game, the others have a kind of slot that acts as the mech.

the only thing i ever had to replace is the motor which u can order online (ebay) or get from granger which is prob

cheaper. on some cheaper mcgreggor copies ive had issues with the wiring needing to be reconnected

after moving it but thats just because they used cheap soldering instead of plugs and the movement jostled the wires

loose.

Im on here as a operator and not pushing my stuff so i can give some pointers..

I don't know what state your in so i don't know the laws..I do know that it is the lottery that normally gets the machines picked up,they are the ones complaining, not some kids mom..

the slots on side like he mentioned are not really what determines "your take".. They are there for you to GET your take... but the reason i have big openings in the blazing quarters is for large prizes like pocket watches etc not to get hung.. the mirror covering these is not attached at front,,if you want to make sure prizes go to customers then all one has to do make a "L" out of cardboard or something and slide it under mirror so opening is not so big

You can adjust the payout to customer by changing the following...to make it tighter you would bend the lip at a higher angle and put "counter sunk" round screw heads or carriage bolts in play field,,these allow the quarters to "jump" onto quarter in front of it and therefore cause coins to stack up on play field..The coins will get stacked really high and when someone wins they won't just a coin, they would win a handful.

.to make it loose just remove these and bend the lip to lesser degree...I use lexan for the front lip for the operator,,you can bend that easily by laying on floor and pressing down with your foot ,it won't get all tangled and dented up like aluminum on other models of pushers..

there are 2 different kinds of players..You have the guy who wants to drop in 10 coins really fast and see what he will win and then you have the lady that plays for hours and never wins anything because she keeps putting it back in the machine...another example of these same two players is the person who buys 10 one dollar lottery tickets vs the person who by ONE 10 dollar lottery ticket...just different mentalities ,one wants to win and couldn't care about the game and the other just enjoys playing the game..

if you cater to one the other will complain,,so there is no way to make them all 100% happy... Ill have a location and it will be making 500 a week catering to player 1(say the guy who wants to win big fast) and the owner will complain and say i need to make it win more because some lady said "I played the one down the street for 2 hours on just five bucks. Your machine took my 5 bucks in 5 minutes." ill change the payout and the machine would drop to 200 a week because the location was already used to the before settings...like I said,,hard to make everybody happy when everybody isn't the same..

probably going too deep into this with someone just starting out,,I was just explaining some of the thought i put into designing this pusher..

WE HAVE GREATLY improved our quality since we first started.. a few of the options we added in our first machines we changed and improved and we also offer more options now.. Its a continued progress and we will try to keep improving and value feedback from operators..

the inside is basically 4 parts,,the play field which includes your motor, coin mech assembly which includes your coin mech and skil stop,,, the "yoke" or where the tilt mechanism etc is installed, and the power supply and pcb..

All of the american made blazing quarters ( a company did buy the rights to produce some overseas but the company failed to produce it right so it was not continued) all have 110v gear motors like other pushers,,the chinese copies(only about 50 made) had a DC motor..

Most pusher have a "always on" coin divert system,,the only time the coins are diverted to the "house bucket" is when the machine is tilted and alarm goes off or if its unplugged.. The solenoid is powered all the time generating a lot of heat,,I had a coin pusher catch fire with this system a few years ago..This is why my pushers do not operate this way..I also got tired of waitresses getting the free coin or so that falls every hour or so in these models just by the normal vibrations of game..With blazing quarters system all the volunteer coins will be in the operators cashbox..

The blazing quarters solenoid is only triggered by PCB when coin is dropped in coin mech,,it stays on for 30 seconds and then closes,,if someone tilts it then it closes immediately and alarm sounds for 10 seconds..these are programmed in PCB and are not adjustable.

some of the first machines i built had a wooden box on front door for players winnings,,we now use a stainless steel insert that is welded and can't be broken off and it makes it easier to scoop out winnings when playing..Alot of other mfg.'s use a wood box with a metal lip to scoop coins out,,,thats ok until someone finds out they can take a tire tool and stick in the coin chute and lift and then box breaks off the door and falls into coin bucket in bottom of machine,,,doest make any noise either,,they will do it when a store is open and the just reach in coin box and grab handfuls of free quarters!! my new coin tray stops this as it has lip on outside and inside,,only way to do this would require a lot of prying and banging..The bonus hole pusher can also be triggered with simple coat hanger,,i learned this and that is why we haven't sought a similar system for progressive.

also,,i use a coin comparator ,,other models use just a "rail road track" coin mech and players can get a tape measure and feed into mech and push the coins right out the front..sure there is less that can go wrong with the railroad track and therefore no service calls but just one or two 100 dollar bills pushed off of playfield will make you change your mind..

theres other things but just go check out the website and youtube

What about cranes? Is a prize being given out the same thing.

no ,there are cranes EVERYWHERE here . thats a whole different topic i suppose . i dont know anything about cranes either .

Pushers are outlawed here as they are considered "gambling machines". They all migrated to the casinos and businesses on Native American Territory/Reservation land. I see the watered-down versions in arcades that spit out tickets, but that's no good to the rest of us.

Cranes are considered "skill games" since it requires "skill" to get the prize.

could do what i do,

i use .984 tokens... no reedemable for cash

i set up a changer next to the machine for tokens

no other machines around them use tokens

so they only have one purpose to put back into the pusher

and i dont use cash prizes.... i use gift cards and bling, i also use capsules with a winner of xx inside call the number you won a mp3 player etc..

or i leave the mp3 player with the store to hand out to winners..

there is no cash play and its for prizes only then..

I saw a bunch on craigslsit for sale at 10.00 per - he had a bunch of them in storage.

But the local laws will not allow them - so passed on them.

TEN DOLLARS?!!! you could have sold them on ebay for a few hundred each

be careful with the tokens though,,I had some mcgregors in the beginning and just got my dremel and cut the opening a little bigger for .984 tokens and problem i had is it would still accept quarters...I would come back and machine would have quarters all mixed in with tokens..so that might get someone in trouble if it can't have cash in it..better option on that model pusher would be to use the "smaller than quarter" tokens and get a new coin mech just for that size..

the blazingquarters coin pusher uses the coin comparitor so if its isn't the right coin it isn't going through ..

I to have a lot set up for tokens and fill with bling, gift cards and star points..the star points are just some edge lit acrylic i cut out to be small stars with either a "1,2 or 3" engraved in it..I tear a redemption ticket in half (has long number on each side) and tape one pc with number to bottom of star and tape the other in my notebook on page for that location.. if they get 4 points they get garmin,6 points iPod touch, 20 points iPad, 30 points laptop etc... I don't buy the prizes i just have large poster printed and laminated in machine, when they win i buy the prizes..when someone calls to redeem star points i give them their prize and take a photo to post on pusher.. I charge cash box $25 bucks for each point as i put them in the machine as my locations are normally 50/50 after product.

I have seen machines to oregon,,they where in laundries ..laundries don't normally have lottery so there is normally not a conflict..put them in store next to lottery terminal and they pick your stuff up..

I can tell you most states offices first thing out of their mouth when you ask them is something illegal is "Yes its illegal" as they don't want any liability in telling you otherwise, and they don't want to research it to find out..I could call my state right now and ask "is it illegal to have gum ball machine and have a display with a watch on it but there is only one watch in machine?? is that gambling???" and they would say yes and its illegal...because really its just as much gambling as a crane or a pusher,,because what kid is wanting that plastic ring when he makes the purchase???

If you play the machine hoping to get more than what you are paying for and not having any control over the outcome then most people would define that as gambling...so the gum ball machine with a watch mix is more of a gambling machine than a crane or a pusher..a crane and pusher you have a element of skill,, a person that never plays a pusher is not going to have same success than someone that knows how to play.

most state laws are so vague they can read it anyway they want at the time and or election year..If it makes a lot of money for the operator then they dont want it,,especially since they are the mob(the lottery) and their numbers game is the only one allowed in town! if it competes in any way with their operation then its your kneecaps buddy!

some enforce the reason "it gives out cash" but if you read the laws it says "any thing of value" so they are not even reading the laws they have in place but just picking on one industry that is competing with their "numbers" game.

all of our machines use coin comparators,,so they aren't "quarter pushers" but rather coin pushers and can use whatever coin the operator sets it up for.

i see what youre getting at , i guess im just worried about having money invested in machines that may get confiscated , or kicked out in a hurry . i-we can disagree until we are blue in the face ,but , if my machine is confiscated , im out the money . thats kinda my thought . now ,if i could get a location to redeem tickets for gift cards or something of the nature.... im just not sure how to go about it

Yes i know the feeling,,that is why i tried to make my machine as cheap as possible for the operators to buy..at 1000 bucks average cost you have about a 3-4 week return on your investment in a average location.. when i first started coin pushers the only "street" machine where pot of silvers and they where 3600 each!! you still make money but your holding your breath as far as legalities go...

I would never put a machine in a location that i thought it would get picked up..but most DA's don't even care and let the operators of pushers just destroy your crane routes etc.. then when you finally fight back and join the party the DA is bored and says "Hey those are illegal." ..Most DA's don't even care,,its all about the money and what fines they can bring in their coffers.

the laws are written not for the publics protection but for the DA's to be lazy pricks and just pick and choose when they want to prosecute..

again ,i FULLY agree . but , since i ( we ) work so hard for our money , i just have a hard time thinking i could lose it like that . i dont have enough to give away : . on the same hand , if i could figure a way to network with some people , id really entertain the idea of starting a route in florida...as long as dogcow doesnt slash all my tires ;D ( <<< joking )

Link to comment

As far as networking there are other states that pushers are pretty common..Here in Ky they are everywhere except places with alcohol ..They have a lot of them TX,MI,CA just to name a few.. Florida has higher payout games that really hurt coin pushers..players are gonna go for the biggest bang for their buck and florida is eat up with cherry masters and sweepstakes!! these machine are like slot machines sorta if you don't know what I'm talking about..

These places get most of the players so coin pushers actually don't make as much I've found in FL as they do in say TN.. Those penny arcades in FL(or cherry master rooms) give away free lunch or have $20 in free play with buy in etc... so the people I've seen just go to which ever one gives the best deal that day..

Ive got some places that do really well in FL but its hard to find a good location that doesn't have machines already...They have machines in Oregon I'm sure and for every trip to FL to work that could have bought another pusher machine (about same price probably)

You can buy a gum ball machine, make $10 a month maybe for 10 years before it gets stolen or broken or basically $1200 for a $75 buck investment over 10 years...Or you can buy a pusher for $1000,make $500 a month for 3 years and then they make you pick it up because the DA got bored or basically $18000 for a $1000 investment.... same math and there are always variables..

best thing is to be diversified and just draw you a big circle on the map and say to yourself "Im gonna make the most quarters i can in this circle!" no matter if its gum balls, toys, pushers, stuffed animal cranes, car washes, laudromats, snack and soda, kiddie rides, penny smashers etc etc etc.. You can make just as much money this way as you can driving all over the universe servicing one type of machine.

best thing with high payout machines is that you control the location..If you have the pusher and its making bank and there is a gum ball rack there from another vendor..you can just tell owner you have gum ball racks and since you are there more often you can give him better service..He will normally let you have the spot and have the other removed.. Some great gum ball rack stops you can never inch in with another rack as they are happy or really don't care with service they have already and this is only way to get in.
