What coin is this?

I was counting my quarters this evening, and I found this odd little number. It was in the 3rd tray of my Seaga TV3000, which is probably why it took it. It is exactly alike to a quarter, and upon testing it ran through my Northwestern Mech I've got here just fine. Sorry for the low-quality photo- I'm a vendor, not a photographer.

The face reads: Republique Francaise "1983" and the back reads: "Francaise Polynesie" and then "10 f"

Where is this crazy thing from, and how did it wind up in Whiting Wisconsin?

it's a French Franc that no one uses anymore since they all switched to the Euro, someone probably dragged it back from vacation 20 years ago and thought they were being slick by putting it in a vending machine. I have one location that gets a canadian coin in it once a month lol

I get half to a dozen canadian quarters a day

then again I am in tourist territory (Vacationland)

I keep them in a box, the coin counter spits them out. my CU wont take them

One of these days I will go cash them in.

thing is the exchange rate is about even
