KPower
I am curious about how this type of business works. Is there anyone out there that runs these? If so what kind of fees come out before your cut? Do you pay commission?
davidsurvz
I used to work for a company that installed ATM's and electronic security for the banking industry. One of the people that worked there started setting up his own ATM business. He was making $15,000.00 / mo. I have no idea what his cost was but that is what he said he was making when he left the company. I don't know if that was gross or net. I also worked with a guy a couple years ago who had 8 locations. Originally it was 10 but I remember that he said he sold two of the ATM's. He said on his good months he wa making $1,500.00 net. and during his slow months (he had a couple of locations that were seasonal) he was making $800.00 / mo. net. I know that the business can be very lucritive especially if you can set them up in casinos. We used to install them all the time in casinos (Vegas, Reno and some reservations.)Some of them have a $5.00 surcharge. You'll pay it too if you have "the fever" I don't know too much about location fees / charges, etc. But I know sometimes certain places would ask to have an ATM in their store. The Triton ATM's are pretty good machines. I haven't been around the industry for a while but I know it can be EXTREMELY PROFITABLE!! (Especially for Wells Fargo and Bof A.) ha ha! land14
On the issue of ATMs, are you you able lease/own portable ATMs, eg. to be used at exhibitions, fates, etc. land14
davidsurvz
I am sure you can. You can purchase ATM's and pay fairs and events to set up machines at the locations. I would recommend contacting potential event locations and getting specific details before purchasing any ATM's though. David
BluePlate
I know this is an old thread, but if anyone is curious about ATMs, drop me a PM and I can share, I have 5 ATMs and process for over 30. Good income, but a whole new set of headaches.
Yvette
I'm very interested in hearing about some of the pro's and con's of this business (ATM vending). Are you willing to share what you have learned thus far?
BluePlate
I feel like I could write a book about ATMs, and by no means am I a guru. The Good things about ATMs: If you find a good location, they can be very profitable. There is quite a few different sales models you can use. You can own the ATM, fill the cash, or just sell the ATM and manage the portfolio. Many ATM contracts can be 4+ years so there can be little turn over, you get the location and you can have it for awhile. If you learn to fix the ATMs (which is not hard) you have another revenue source. You can make money off of Equipment sales, surcharge, and interchange. The downside about ATMs: There are alot of big player out there. If you are going to fill the ATM (Vault Services) you need to have access to a few $1000. A good location is hard to find. Because the contracts are long, it's hard to win over existing businesses. My suggestion is to team up with someone who has been in the business for awhile and sell for them. Once you are up to speed, find a more direct Independent Sales Organization (ISO) and you can make a little more money. If your ready to go, PM me and I give you some names / companies to call. You can learn a little bit more about ATMs at www.atmmarketplace.com

joel112
My dad used to work for a local armored car company. There were more than a few times where he pulled his gun! Luckily he never had to use it. The ATMs weren't located in bad neighborhoods either.
joel112
There was one machine outside a busy nightclub that my dad serviced. It had a $2.50 surcharge and he said the company made several thousand per week from that one machine.

markvend
Blueplate, Thank you for the info - I had been considering this as a next step beyond bulk vending. You ought to write a small ebook and sell it. Seems like you have a good handle on how to help someone get started. Thanks again. Mark

BluePlate
I have heard of National Link, from what I have heard they are pretty good. The best is to find someone to answer questions and be able to get a hold of them at a moments notice. You mentioned you are leasing the equipment. If at all possible, try not to do that. You can pick up a new ATM for $2000. Leasing that same ATM will cost you $6000 over time. Are you going to be vaulting the ATM or are you hiring an armor car service? Feel free to send me a PM and I can give you pointers on placing an ATM.
