Hey guys! I just purchased 4 machines on a route 2 x seaga vc730s and 2 x fortune 850/950.

I am looking for any good resources to learn from (other than the amazing amount of knowledge ive already been getting from you all in the forums!)

Any advice for these machines, a newbie or vending snacks and drinks in general?

Thanks!!

Hello and welcome-

You jumped right in with both feet...awesome. Not sure if your screen name has a tie to your company name, but if it is...

You might not want to use "poop" in your company name!!

Welcome to TVF, the machines you have purchased are not well regarded, but what the heck you've got 'em and you have started your business which is more than most people do. Take some time to read and learn and we will be happy to provide advice as you grow your business.

James,

Good point on the company name, but it looks like the Dapoota got a little creative with a Spanish word.

Dapoota-Very creative of you. I've never seen it written that way. Best of luck on the new route.

Take care,

Brian

hahaha I'm not sure what dapoota is. I've used this as all my screen names on the internets.

I posted this elsewhere, but I'll recap. I haven't purchased these machines YET. I jumped the gun and posted it because I was super excited. I haven't paid for them, doing that friday... unless you guys convince me otherwise.

The machines are in locations, 2 in tool and die shops and 2 in oil change places. He said they are making between 400-600 a month, but he is only filling them once ever 2 weeks. He doesn't seem to be doing much of anything right. I imagine I could gross $300-350 a month, so my payoff would be 18-24 months.

also, is a machine like this for $500 a good deal? http://www.vendingve..._machine_lg.gif

and what about this one for $800

From a business perspective, an 18 to 24-month break-even point isn't exactly a "deal," which means you have some (considerable) room for negotiation--especially if you're paying with cash.

As you can see by others' opinions of these particular machines, they're not the most desirable or highest demanded machines, which creates even more room for negotiation.

As is true in any industry, everyone will have a different idea of what an established business is worth. It's my personal opinion that a vending business is worth around 10 months of gross sales. Maybe 12. Have you been able to verify the income the current owner has stated?

Every sale is different, but my point is the same regardless if you agree with this valuation approach or not. I'd absolutely try to negotiate the asking price down.

Just to reiterate, your being able to pay cash up front is huge.

Dapoota,

I couldn't tell you what a Fortune brand machine is, but if it's the one in your thumbnail pic, then I would avoid it due to inability to obtain parts or tech support. The pictured machine is made in China and has been sold under a variety of names including "Gaines" through business opportunity shows at grossly inflated prices. They are sold but not supported by any distributor.

Though I'm very familiar with Seaga equipment, I don't know what a VC730 is. Seaga's website only mentions a VC520 so the 730 may be slightly larger. Seaga does provide some product support, but their parts prices are high and they over-charge for freight. Take a look at www.seagamfg.com and you'll see what they offer.

The machine in the hyper-link is worth $500 or more if it's exactly as in the picture, which is a Vendo V511 or V720 which are both late model machines capable of vending up to 20 or 24 oz. bottles.

The question of value of any of the accounts or machines is really determined by what someone will pay for them, and what you are comfortable with. As stated by indianavending, the seller should be able to provide a history of what his accounts have sold over an extended period of time or his numbers are pretty useless. You definitely want a ROI of 12 months or less, especially for used machines.

As far as how good the machines will be, it's a crapshoot. Some machines work forever with no problems and some don't. That's why I consider parts supply and tech support very important in any equipment purchase.

Lastly, don't let your emotions play any part in this decision. This has to make business sense and if it doesn't, just walk away. There will be plenty of chances to get into vending down the road.

Thanks for the advice AZ. I think my emotions are definitely getting in the way... I want to get started real fast :). The machines are also all within 5 miles of my house on the route which is playing a big factor in my consideration.

The machines in the pics were just examples. The 2 seaga machines were purchased from global vending in September. The other 2 he picked up from someone randomly.
