Having major issues with a coin mechanism

Hey there guys. Forgive me if there is a thread on this somewhere, I have searched high and low. I have attached a picture of a machine that I have currently located in a race car shop. This coin mechanism has given me coin jams like no other, three times in under thirty days. I have already rebuilt the mechanism a few times, but would really like to upgrade the mechanism for now. I have tons of spare mech's all over the garage. Is there any other mechanism that will fit this machine? I Have a few beaver's laying around, A+A's, etc. Thanks! Brad

It's hard to tell (because it's painted) whether it's a Northwestern or an AA copy. I bet that the mech that's in it (in the pics) is an AA, so I would imagine you'll need to find either a Northwestern or AA mech.

I agree. Looks like an AA to me. Try a NW smooth chrome mech if you have one.

when those jam, it's either broken or worn parts, or something sticky in it or weak springs. try putting it in a bucket of warm soapy water and then blow drying it.

or take it apart and hand dry and reassemble.

Does it skip every now and then?

If so take the gear off the back and replace it. There is a slight difference between the A&A style and the NW style. It sounds like the teeth are not going up into the teeth on the wheel far enough. One is larger than the other.

Also check your plastic cam and make sure it is not cracked inside the hole where the handle slides through.

For coin jams, take the mech all the way apart and use a small flat file to remove any burrs or rough spots.

Good luck.

Thanks guys for the advice. Turns out it was an A + A Mech. Replaced with a NW chrome. Working 1000 times better. Thanks for the advice with the files, looks like i'll be picking up a compact file set :)
