Guaranteed location ready; Coca-Cola graphics; 9 selections of cans/bottles configured however I like; labels; keys; delivered and set up.

Also includes a 1-year warranty. $650.

This is a good deal, right?

Good deal

That's a GIII 804 which is about the largest soda machine you can get - it's really nice to fill that sucker up and know you won't have to worry about products running out.

That is a good deal indianvending, especially if moondog says so, I think he is the wiz when it comes to Royals. Just to give you and idea, I sold a DN 440 single price machine for $600 with a thirty day warranty.

Okay, now I'm going to get it!!

That's a good price if it's location ready. I would sell that machine for $1000 because it's multiprice, capable of 20 oz bottles and it would be location ready. However I don't offer a warranty of 1 year. That's unheard of in a used machine. Just make sure its not bottler-owned. Call the local Coke plant with the model and serial number to check it.

Putting this purchase on hold. Did a quick Google search on the company name of this local vending company and the first page of search results are "ripoff reports" and a BBB listing that says there are 12 unresolved complaints, also stating the company is now believed to be out of business. Told the guy I needed to wait until my location was ready and I move out a leased Coca-Cola machine (he offered a nice discount from his asking price if I paid up front with a check in exchange for a bill of sale and have the machine delivered later on), and he texted back--probably somewhere around 2 dozen times--saying all the complaints are unfounded and I need to pay today or our deal is off.

Sounds desperate; my gut is saying this won't go well if I decide to hand over the check. So, I am unfortunately still in the market for a new can machine for this warehouse.

That's too bad - sounds like that 1 year warranty wouldn't be worth diddly (probably the reason for the low BBB rating)

Did this person/company happen to be located in Illinois? Sounds, verbatim, like a person that I know of who works out by me. Just curious.

I dealt with this moron about 6 months ago, i set up a deal to buy a refurbed ap 7600 and drove 125 miles to pick it up and he waits till i get to the location and calls me 45 minutes after the meeting time telling me he wanted to reschedule. Guy takes peoples money and doesn't deliver. Thankfully i didn't give him any money upfront.

That's the one. He's pretty notorious around here. I've actually had a small amount of success buying through him, but I have never given him money up front and the delivery times have been.... flaky...

Here's an old post on this forum about him too.

Yes, and yes. Chicagoland suburbs--I've seen addresses for this business ranging from Joliet, Lawndale and, most recently, Lyons.

Not having an experience with him personally, I have nothing bad to report myself, aside from the bad gut feeling I have. And the unusual volume and desperate tone of text messages I was sent--I had several more this morning.

I've had my share of bad experiences from CL and have grown rather skeptical (and overly cautious as a result) when dealing with people there.

To new vendors reading this, please keep shopping on Craigslist--there are definitely good deals to be had out there, once you're able to sift through all the scams and higher-than-retail prices.

Maybe you kinda need to look at other areas instead of just Chicago. Maybe a little farther than your comfort zone. Just a thought.

I have a policy when buying anything- never allow a salesman to give you a sense of urgency, it only leads to mistakes. I think you probably made a good call, especially if he wanted any money up front.

Great advice. Of the handful of mistakes I've made on Craigslist over the years, I think rushing and otherwise feeling uncomfortable has been a reoccurring theme. Either I've been rushing to the meeting place because of a requested deadline or for some other reason, rushing generally leads to mistakes.

Keeping comfortable--knowing your meeting place, having a friend go with you, etc. goes a long way, too.

Good advice. I have a Craigslist app on my phone that I hit a few times a day, and have set it to search all surrounding areas within 200 miles or so.

Of the deals I've seen there, and there are regularly good deals to be had outside of Chicago, I haven't yet found anything that was worth driving several hours for. But I'm up for it, for the right price (including the additional costs involved such as renting a truck; I don't have any means of picking up or delivering machines myself yet).

I thought this deserved a bump in hope it would save someone a lot of aggravation. Dave McDonald is still at it. I'm probably the closest thing to a success story since I did actually receive all the machines I paid for but not without hundreds of texts, phone calls and threats of broken bones. He'll make you a sweetheart deal to get some money up front then take you around the bend to get what you're owed. Warranty is BS too. If you ever get your equipment you paid for you'll hate this guy so much by the time the transaction is final you'll never want to talk to him again or let him near your machines. Dave McDonald has some real mental issues.

FYI never give a check to someone you do not trust........... They can and will take your account number and tracking number off check and empty your bank account. Cash, money order or credit card.

Not sure what bank you use? I write checks to strangers everyday. If someone did that to me my bank would cover it because that is called fraud.

This guy is fairly notorious in your area as a rip off artist - I'm surprised people keep dealing with him as his rep is pretty shot.

I think (and hope) all he has left to prey on is the new and naive in the business. I bought 4 of my first machines from him and learned to be cautious. Now he's just a competitor I can enjoy beating to the deal. Hopefully I'll make him struggle for the rent once in a while.
