So I'm gonna get a lot of crap for this!

I've got a location right next to where I'm employed full time, an apartment building and I've agreed to do vending services there. Problem is they're limited on space so I'm getting a machine in their workout center. I've decided to order a combo unit! Yeah, there it is, a combo unit! But I'm really just trying it out and seeing if I would like to go bigger and get full size machines/bigger locations. So let's hear it, rip on me!

Actually,

For a work out center, one of the basic glass front drink machines would be perfect. You can vend any kind of beverage and you won't have to fool with snacks (a hard thing to do with just one machine).

You should be able to get a Dixie 5591 for much less than a good combo (AP, National or USI)

Thanks for the fast response. I took a look at that and I'm wondering if there's something that looks a little nicer. I know it sounds stupid but the place is really upscale. Thanks!

Well,

You could look at a Bevmax 4 or a Royal RVV500 - both are robotic and are as upscale as they come. You'll sell a lot more beverages in a fitness center - I doubt they'd but the snacks even if they had them.

That's a good suggestion. With a glass front machine you can vend all kinds of energy, juice and sports drinks.

You say this is a workout center in an apartment complex? I am picturing multiple apartment buildings, 2-5 Coke or Pepsi machines scattered around the property and then the workout center is maybe next to the office or part of the office and recreation room. You are considering putting a machine in a room that probably doesn't have a ton of traffic meaning a small population will be exposed to it. On top of that the room will be vacant alot and definitely overnight and it wouldn't take long before someone decided they wanted the money that's in the machine and no one would be around to stop them! Vending machines in apartments are magnets for vandalism and the more remote or hidden the machine the more likely it will be hit. It's not a matter of if, but when it will be vandalized. I'm not saying don't do this, but do it with your eyes wide open.

You also mentioned you were going to order a machine. Is this a new machine and what make and model is it? You need one that can be secured against break ins. I'm not trying to be a negative Nancy but you may not realize how exposed your machine would be here.

Thanks for all the input guys! I'm really just testing the waters on this so I thought about ordering this combo machine: http://www.evending.com/Combo-Vending-Machines/ However, I do like those machines Bevmax 4 and Royal RVV500. Can I get a credit card reader installed onto these? This will be in a single apartment, not multiple buildings. The owner said she has another location that she'd like a machine as well. Talking to her tomorrow so any suggestions would help considerably! I already told her that the machine I would order is the Futura, the one I linked. Should I try talking her out of that?

And you think the 5591 looks bad? That thing looks like a reject from "Futurama" - probably where they got the name.

One of the few givens in vending is that any rookie who buys a new combo machine will end up regretting it.

If this will be the only vending in the building then it's a different story, but please, please, please don't buy anything unless it is made by Automatic Products, Crane, National Vendors, GPL, Dixie Narco, Vendo, Royal, or USI/Wittern Group. Anything else and you will regret it. As to credit cards, there are ways to get them to work on machines made by any of the manufacturers I mentioned, but if you know you will be taking credit cards get a machine that is new enough to use MDB technology.
