Priusjames
I saw this ad this morning...always wondered how these Antares units originally got into the hands of the people who eventually dump them for a hundred bucks (if they can get that much). Figured it must have been a bizop...here's a guy who's laying it out there like it was a good investment. I like this line "My present job in Telecom does not alloy(w?) me the time to enjoy a great business opportunity and be my own boss." http://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/bfs/3680064911.html
shepherdsflock
$53,000 for 8 machines?! Wow, this guy must have had zero understanding of the vending industry to spend that kind of money on 8 machines and hope to see a ROI in any reasonable amount of time. moondog
We've got a guy around here that's been trying to sell his for $3,000 - ad's been running for a couple of years (on and off) on CL. "Earth to Major Tom"
sherlock
$53k on 8 machines....OUCH!! That friends, is the reason why this forum is like a gift from above. Had his man spent even 1 evening reading the info here on TVF before buying those combos, think of the money he could have saved. Often, the only difference between "a sucker" and "an informed new vendor" is that the "sucker" didn't find TVF in time and the "informed new vendor" did...and you can't measure the amount of good that has likely made in the lives of many vendors' families. Thanks to all TVF members, both experienced and inexperienced vendors, who share their stories/knowledge here. There would be a lot more of these biz-op victims were it not for folks like you. You know Sherlock, TVF is not that easy to find. I had been in vending for two years before I stumbled across TVF researching something online. When you do a search for vending chat forums, what you get is a bunch of garbage and Vending Chat where I lurked for awhile before getting started. Dogcow used to post over there occasionally, but that site is not nearly as active as this one. Of course, the TVF full line forum was only a year old when I started so that might of had something to do with my inability to find it.
sherlock
You know Sherlock, TVF is not that easy to find. I had been in vending for two years before I stumbled across TVF researching something online. I won't argue against that. I never meant to imply these biz-op "suckers" were lazy or didn't do their duty of proper research before investing just because they didn't find this forum and others did. My points were only to show how much TVF can make and has made a difference in people's lives because of the money it has saved some. The fact that many don't/can't find TVF until it's too late (and some NEVER find TVF) is why I don't look down my nose at "suckers" who buy into biz-ops. So many of us could have fallen down that same chute were it not for the stroke of luck that lead us here before investing. When you do a search for vending chat forums, what you get is a bunch of garbage and Vending Chat where I lurked for awhile before getting started. Dogcow used to post over there occasionally, but that site is not nearly as active as this one. That is no longer the case. For the record: When you Google "vending chat forums" as moondog stated on his post, TVF is 2ND on the list of sites to come up. If you Google "vending forum" it's 1ST. Google "vending chat" and it's 4TH. So, though some luck is required in order to find TVF...it's no longer quite as hard today as it may have been when moondog found TVF considering TVF is on page ONE of each search example I gave above. Well that certainly explains why we have so many new members now as well as a ton of guests lurking out there. Still, I do wonder about the people that get sucked into Biz Ops - there's obviously a lot of them out there or all of the Biz Ops would have been long gone. I'm amazed that anyone would drop 50K doing so little research and am inclined to believe that laziness does have something to do with it. I can tell you from my own experience that, even without the aide of TVF, there are still enough resources out there for a rookie to make sound decisions when starting a vending business. I found RJT early on and spoke with him on the phone for an hour before buying his book (I fear Robert didn't make much money on that exchange - I doubt he cared). It's not that I haven't made my share of mistakes but at least, backed up by a little knowledge, I was able to recognize those mistakes pretty quick. W.C. Fields said "there's a sucker born everyday" and somebody else said "a fool and his money are soon parted". You can lead the horse to water. but you can't make him drink. Problem is, when it comes to most vending rookies, nobody is leading them to the water...they're expected to find the water themselves. Your metaphor only works if you are describing someone who was suckered into a biz-op AFTER finding TVF. Whereas my points relate to those who are suckered without ever having found this forum. Having said that...I admire the fact TVF has positively touched so many lives. That was all I was trying to say. And I prefer the quote, "Judge not that ye be not judged". Priusjames
There is no such thing as a free lunch. If it sounds too good to be true, it is. Do unto others...wait, that's something else...good to remember, though. All good rules to live by, they've served me well. For the record, I found the forum easily, once I looked for it. Having said that...I admire the fact TVF has positively touched so many lives. That was all I was trying to say. And I prefer the quote, "Judge not that ye be not judged". There's no doubting the fact that TVF has saved a good number of people from getting involved with Biz Ops (at least 2 dozen since I've been a member) not to mention the almost countless others we've talked out of buying used Biz Op machines. I'm sure, that as a Moderator, you've noticed all the guests online so I'd bet the forum has saved a lot more that we'll never know about. What irks me about this subject is that every time somebody falls for a Biz Op, they're basically funding these guys so they can keep on doing what they're doing. While Biz Ops are not illegal (aside from possible "false advertising" issues), I almost feel like it's "aiding and abetting" for anybody top do business with these guys. TVF had one of these companies respond recently to our concerns (you know the one) and their attitude was, that the only way their program wouldn't work, was because the individual didn't work at it hard enough. I'd like to know how hard one would have to work to make six Antares machines, at 6.5K a pop, a viable business. Well, I'll stop ranting now - probably barking up the wrong tree anyway. Even if we did manage to eradicate all the Biz Ops. the people running them and their ilk would just concoct some other scam. Ps. As for judging them - in my judgement, they make me want to puke! The craiglist poster would probably do cartwheels down the street if he could cut his losses down to 100X what you lost on this equipment.
