Using Smaller Gumballs in the 1800 machines

Hello I know Ive posted about this before and not everyone has 1800 triples so forgive me for sounding like a broken record. Vending gumballs out of my 1800s is still a problem, I opened the holes all the way and made sure the screws were tight enough, I think its the plastic agitator that breaks alot. one of my spots put an out of order sign over the gumball head because it was too hard to turn and taking peoples money, they called me and were nice about it so i swapped it for chiclets, eventually I'm going to run out of candy wheels, does anyone think using a smaller count of gumballs and only filling the machine halfway will work?

What product wheel is in it?

you need a gumball wheel or a adjustible candy wheel big enogh for gumballs.

since you are having trouble, err getting your balls to fit, I would assume you have the candy wheel. you have two choices. find a gumball wheel somewhere, like ebay or craigslist. I seen at the show out here, gumballs come in many sizes. are 850 count balls too big? try ford gumballs? I dont know if you can buy sample packs from the manufactors and try a few types. If it's a candy wheel, did you try chicklet type gums?

I don't know what you are doing wrong. The only thing I can think is are you lining up the holes properly and most important are you using the gumball riser under the gumball wheel. I never had problems with gumballs when I had my 1-800 route of 160+ machines.

I've actually had a similar issue, but it was with Reese's Pieces. I've had a couple comments about how the mech was hard to turn. The first time, I swapped the mech because the main screw was loose, the second time (probably 6 months later) I swapped the whole canister/wheel and it works fine. I think it's the 1800's way of saying that it wants a new vending wheel. If someone has a better solution, I'd like to hear.

I've had similar issues with my 1800's. With the gumballs, you really need to crank hard to turn those (and as a result the black teeth on the wheel tend to snap off. Once you lost a tooth on the wheel it's trash. Tread, here's my question - maybe it's the riser that's causing the problem? Maybe I should try taking the riser out for the gumball so they sit lower in the hopper?

It's worth a try. I don't know if it would work though.

In the past I've also noticed that the shavings from the gum become stuck to the bottom of the hopper. That causes the wheel not to turn freely also.

They come in many shapes and sizes. There is a large variety to choose from. You might choose a one with a canister that holds four pounds of gumballs or you might choose a canister that holds twelve pounds of gumballs. You may find that you would like to have a machine on a stand or one that sits upon a counter. A single stand machine is available as well as a multi stand that holds from two to five canisters. If that doesn’t meet your needs you can choose from a set of machines that rest on a rack that holds four to ten canisters and can be fitted with small canisters on the bottom rack and larger canisters on the top.
