thevendingguru Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 I am slowly in the process of getting my ducks in a row here and would appreciate some input on how to proceed: I now live in a small town and the big city is 200 miles away from. It costs me $60 in gas each time I go to the city (return trip), and the only times I can go are saturday and sunday. I have around 60 machines in another city that I would like to bring to the city 200 miles from me to locate. It costs me $250 to get to these machines, and about $500 to ship them all. Total shipping costs would be $750. When they get to the city 200 miles from me, I will then have to get a storage unit which costs $200 a month. In terms of finding places for them, I have 2 options: #1 is is to spend the $60 on gas every week and try my luck at self locating. Self locating is always hit or miss, it is time consuming, and there are no guarantees that I will get any locations in a given week. #2 is to hire a locator. I don't mind self locating and I shy away from hiring a locator, but a locator might be nice due to the sheer volume of machines. I used to hire a quick locator. She got me about 20 locations a week, but at a cost of $50 per machine with no kick out guarantees. I could hire this locator and pay $3,000 in locating fees, $180 in gas and $200 for one month of storage. The machines would be placed in 3 to 4 weeks and done. If on the other hand, I located by myself, I would be paying $60 in gas for as many days as I would need to locate, and I would be paying $200 for the storage unit for a few months. If I can find 10 places by myself on saturdays every month, then I would be locating for about 26 days * 60 for gas = $1,610 + $1,200 for the storage unit = $2,810 - all of the revenue that I would have been making had the machines been located already. I think I just answered my own question lol: self locating is fine if I have a handful of machines that are at my place and are not costing me anything to keep. A professional locator is fine if I have a large volume of machines that I want to find places for ASAP. Agree or disagree?
GagesVending Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 I agree, at least start by locating yourself. Have you checked out the competition yet? I would check that out first before pulling all of your machines on the other route. If there's a lot of competition in each location it's nearly impossible to make any decent money, especially since you're paying so much in gas just to get there. I'd suggest that you scope out the competition, find their weaknesses and ask for placement of your machine at each location you enter (if you want the location, that is).
thevendingguru Posted June 16, 2013 Author Posted June 16, 2013 Gogetter, there is no route to sell. They are all unlocated.
