massalonvending Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 Hi all, I was wondering what you think, I am essentially using vending as a fourth job (High school comes first, then my web design business, then my Minecraft server) I primarily use my vending for fun, to get connections, and lets face it: to fund my ventures & my wants. Currently I have ten machines placed (or very, very close) Selectivend Red Triple Head- family liquor store location #1- Vends Mikes, PMMs and Hot Tamales as of right now - makes ~$40/month + 0% comm (Thanks dad!) Amerivend Red Single Head- family liquor store location #2- Vends PMMs as of right now - makes ~$30/month + 0% comm (Thanks dad!) Seaga Black Triple Head- family liquor store location #3 - Going to vend DBB Gumballs, Mike & Ikes and Peanut M&Ms + 0% comm (Thanks dad!) LYPC Black Triple Head- pub #1 (I can drive the golf cart to it, my favorite) - Vends Runts, PBMMs and Skittles - ~$80/month + 50% profit comm. LYPC Black Triple Head- pub #2 - Vends Jelly Bellies, Skittles and PMMs - ~$50/month + 50% profit comm. LYPC Black Triple Head- pub #3 - Vends M&Ms, Hot Tamales & Reeses Pieces - ~$60/month + 50% profit comm. Amerivend Red Single Head - hair salon - Vends Jelly Bellies as of right now - ~$40/month + 0% comm. Amerivend Red Single Head - sportswear store - Vends Nuts as of right now - ~$30/month + 0% comm. Gumballs.com machine - gym - Vends trail mix as of right now - ~$30/month + 0% comm. Beaver White Single Head (w/ stand and cash box) - dog parlor - Vends dog treats (what a hard guess) - ~$30/month + 0% comm. I am trying to decide if I should expand my business, or keep on focusing on my other ventures, and keep everything as it is. The reason I am debating is I am thinking bulk vending is getting a tad stressful, and was trying to decide. So, if you were in my position, what would you do?
GagesVending Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 Only you can decide that. If you want to do it, you'll find a way to make it work and if you don't want it, then sell out. I'm always expanding my vending business because it's a passion of mine. If you're only doing it for the money, either way you'll make a little money: sell it off and get a lump sum of cash or continue running the route and collect a little here and there. Figure out what your route is worth and then decide what is more valuable to you.
VendingExperts Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 You are in probably a better position than anyone else here. Your young! Which, you can do most whatever you choose. Devote a few years into your route and be making a high income part time and doing your other things or even decide what makes you happiest. At your age sky's the limit!
chada75 Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 Stick with the Web Design Business and Finished High School. On the Vending. Try using your profits to buy more machines and make a go at expanding for a couple years.
adog Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 I feel ya Massalon. I'm a college student and you think high school is alot of work wait until you get to a university. College + Girlfriend + The little side yard work I do for friends and family every week for extra cash = Literally No time. However I still was managing to make it work during the school year, it just was very difficult. However I was banking on this summer to expand as big and quickly as possible. I am hoping to locate about 20 candy machines, 2-5 more racks, and maybe a crane or two. We have to take advantage of the time we have when we have it. And for me that's summer!!!

Sounds like a good time to get selective - limit your new accounts to only the best ones and maybe dump a couple of weaker accounts if time is the issue. RJT says that you'll lose every account you ever had sooner or later, so don't get too stagnant if you're planning on staying in the game.
Action Vending Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 Why dont you make your current locations more profitable. i.e. toys instead of candy in the liquor stores and less or ideally no commission at the bars.
shepherdsflock Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 If you think bulk vending is stressful, I wouldn't recommend other ventures. Bulk vending is probably the least stressful business I've been involved in. I'd probably ditch the Minecraft server (unless it's making money for you), keep the bulk vending business where it's at in terms of size and try to make it more profitable (toys instead of candy, etc.), and focus first on finishing high school and second on developing your web design business. The first thing is finish school. High school is the biggest time sucker you've got right now, get that out of the way and then focus on things that will help you build a career. The only good thing about high school is that a diploma is a prerequisite for just about everything now days; so the sooner you get it out of the way the sooner you can move on to other things. College, on the other hand, gives you options that you can tailor to your needs and goals. Finish high school, choose a college you can afford, study hard and get done early if you can, and then work as hard as possible to build a career. When you get married and have children you'll understand how important it is to have a strong, stable career. The earlier you get established in a career, the better your chances of doing well.
musser Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 There is money to be made in bulk in the short term but the long term viability of a cash business is very doubtful. Cash? People that actually have money dont carry cash. People using only cash are living to close to the edge to have much to spend freely. Full LIne Vending 'automatic merchandising" is a different story, it will be golden.
