bil10219 Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Has anyone started to use combo dollar bill/credit card acceptors? What is involved? Do you need a wireless phone hookup to validate? Can it be retrofitted? Cost? Thanks in advance, Bill
AZVendor Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Card readers use a cellular network connection to send their batches. You can buy separate card readers to mount on your door or into a second validator opening that some machines have and this is the least expensive way to go. You can also use card readers from Mars or Coinco/Arrow/Isis that mount to the front of your validator replacing the original bezel. While this is a much neater install, you will pay a lot more to utilize it. The Mars combo setup is over $600 not including your validator, for example and the Coinco setup won't work on older BA or MAG series validators - you will need a newer validator. You can get a very cost effective separate card reader from USA Technologies for around $300, maybe less under certain circumstances. Read all the information from USAT and Aprivavend and Cantaloupe Systems, make some phone calls and see what systems work best for you. Keep in mind that card readers work best in transient locations or fixed locations with high prices. Your machines must also be MDB capable and you can't install them on a single price soda machine no matter what the vend price is.
bil10219 Posted June 21, 2013 Author Posted June 21, 2013 Thanks AZVendor. What are the ongoing costs for either credit card processing fees or for the cellular batches? Is there a formula for calculating the "break even" point for these things?
AZVendor Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 There is a monthly fee for each card reader of between $10 and $12 plus a percentage of each sale, 5% I believe. There are several operators on this forum that use card readers and you should search for posts concerning them as some have been very informative. I also believe that USAT has financial info regarding card readers on their site as well.
Walta Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Inone has a CC front to fit CoinCo Vantage BAs. Last week USAT released a CC front to fit Mars VN2700 BAs Start with a machine that has a MDB coin mech. Most of the systems have a lease to own option. All the systems operate on cellular data networks, the Inone system also has a lower cost option if the location can provide you with an internet connection. Walta
Vendors Tech Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 The Coinco CRX bezel will work on any BA/MAG/BillPro bill acceptor. They are the cheapest way to go, unless you get on a free program, like USAT. You have to start out with 20-25 minimum units though to get the free program.
