Potential Apartment Complex Location

Hi guys, through a locaotor I've recently been given a lead to an apratment complex of about 200 units, I'm exited & nervous at the same time, I have an appointment with the property manager today and since I've never placed machines in this type of location I was wondering if I could get some pointers from you.

Is there an expectation of comission, and if so what is the going rate for such a location?

Should I cage the machines?

Where would be the best centrally located area for them?  I suppose it depends on the layout...

Any other Pros / Cons, things to ask the Property Manager or things to look out for?

Thanks a lot.

My limited experience was that the soda did much better than the snack. We also experienced vandalism at the location. Our other problem was the machine was located near the main entrance way and while the apartments are air-conditioned, the general area was not. That made chocolate hard to sell. Good luck

Don't forget that your snack machine will probably not be outdoor rated.  Unless this place is "upscale" cages are a must.

You should plan on using cages for any machines or, at the very least, high security plug locks, hasps and hockey puck locks.  You will get vandalism so be prepared.  Most vending machines are put near higher traffic locations such as the laundry room, mail boxes or the pool.  Don't use any extension cords and have them installed on concrete - no paving stones or gravel.  Do not install them where runoff from a roof will fall directly on the machines as even outdoor rated machines can't overcome a flood.

Randy, any update on this location?  I have a 175 unit complex, no convenience store in site.  My machine is in a clubhouse but limited open hours means not enough business to keep it there.  They previously had a Coke machine outside but pulled it due to vandalism.  I thought I might try it with a cage.

A good cage with a couple of hockey puck locks will limit your damage to what they can do through any access holes in the cage door. Coke won't usually use cages so your caged machine will certainly last longer than theirs.
