CajunCandy Posted July 2, 2013 Posted July 2, 2013 I bought a used Royal 660 nine selection, twelve columns. What is happening is when the Dr Pepper is selected the cup on chain will pull on the release lever, bottle will drop to product stop and just sit there will not drop thru like it should. I even moved bottles to a different column and it will do the same thing. I have it set for 16 & 20 oz bottles. I have two columns of Dr Pepper front and back and both will do the same. it does the same with Sprite, Sunkist orange. It has no problems vending Coke, diet Coke, Powerade. Any input to solved this?
AZVendor Posted July 2, 2013 Posted July 2, 2013 You probably have that selection programmed for cans or 2 deep vending, so the chain only pulls on the dog once. If you watch the chain for a properly programmed bottle selection you will see the chain pull the dog twice to release the bottle. This advances the vending gear two notches to drop a deeper product. It will only pull once if programmed for cans so it can drop the front can with one pull and the second can with the next pull. Also make sure you have the selection physically set for the proper diameter of the bottles. If 16.9 oz bottles set the diameter for cans, and if 20 oz bottles set the diameter for bottles.

Thanks for the response AZ The machine was set up for cans, when I bought it, I reprogrammed it for bottles one deep and set my space to sales like I wanted. What is strange is it will drop 16.9 oz coke and diet coke with out a hitch. It does pull the the dog twice but the Dr Pepper bottle does not fall, on the door it shows to set it up for 16-20 oz bottles the same. I can go and reset for can size and try it again tomorrow. mike

I know I set it up right the first time - it's like the machine just forgot what it was supposed to be doing.

I been struggling with this for a couple weeks, it is strange because I watch chain it will pull dog leg, bottle will drop and just sit there, cup will try to pull dog leg a second time and nothing, no bottle drop, i have to reach up and finish pulling it down. Only on the almost straight side bottles. On coke, diet coke, powerade bottles they drop and reload! And you know Dr Pepper is what there crying for! mike
moondog Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 Try the Dr Pep in a column you know that works - otherwise you may have a "dohickey" problem
CajunCandy Posted July 3, 2013 Author Posted July 3, 2013 Try the Dr Pep in a column you know that works - otherwise you may have a "dohickey" problem In my first post I mention about moving Dr Pep. to a known column that vended good. Me thinks the whole machine is a "dohickey" problem! I should'a kept the 650 and sold this piece of work! lol! mike
AZVendor Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 Since Royal says to use the bottle setting you should do that. Mechanically changing from bottle size to can size will probably make the problem worse. Something I have found in a few of these machines is syrup built up on the vending mechanisms or corrosion on the metal pieces. Empty the column and look for syrup gumming up the movement of the plastic pawls and pivot gears and the gear teeth. Also look for any signs of corrosion. You might want to pull the long rod out of the front and back columns and check it for corrosion that would make the product stops not pivot cleanly. Since the problem moved with the bottle and if you don't find syrup or corrosion, then you should call Royal about this. They don't have the Dr. Pepper 16.9 oz on their vend tests but they might know what you can do.

I switch the columns with the rod back to 12 oz cans setting and now it will vend the slim almost straight of wall bottles of cold drinks perfect even with a full rack! I'm vending 20 oz along with 16.9 oz bottles in this 660. Now that it is vending right it should make it's money back in no time Thanks for everybody's help. mike
