Tech help

Okay.  Let's see if this can work.  You guys say I should learn to work on my own machines as far as small problems are concerned and can get help sometimes through this forum.  Well here goes.  I have 2 machines (one snack and one soda), but every time I go there, there are notes on the machines because people are losing their money and when I open the machines, tons of money is hung up in the coin mech.  I'm sure this not a problem I would need to call a tech for, but I have no idea what the problem could be. Any help/advice would be appreciated.

What are the models of all the coin mechs, vending machines, and bill acceptors involved?  List each machine, and then what model and manufacture of bill acceptor and coin mech are in each one.  That will be a start.  There could be a 1000 different problems, but nobody can say anything as to what the problem might be until they know what products are causing the problem.

Sounds like you have a coin jam in your acceptor gate. Pull the top part of the mech off and open the hinged portion that moves when you press on the coin return lever. In the lower right corner you will see a small gate that opens and closes as coins pass through and are sent in the appropriate direction. You probably have several coins stuck behind it. You will need to gently pull the gate open, a small knife or screwdriver and flashlight will help. If you find coins stuck in there you will need to turn the acceptor upside down and shake the coins out.

Make sure you turn off the power to the machine before unplugging the coin mech...unless you want to find out how to replace a control board, too!

Your problem lies in the acceptor portion of your coin mech.  You can get a coin jam now and again, especially with slightly damaged coins, but if it persists you need to swap out the coin mech.  Often the acceptors will get intermittent before they finally fail - I've cleared coin jams and test vended a unit ten times only to get a call two days later saying it didn't work again.

Changing a coin mech is very easy - there are three or four "keyhole" slots on the back of the unit which slip over the screw heads where the mech sits.  Just make sure you've got it in there firmly as a misaligned mech will cause other problems.  To remove the coin mech, lift up and out.
