CajunCandy Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Going ride and look at these machines in morning. AP machine what model is it? I hoping TC don't beat me there. http://batonrouge.craigslist.org/app/3923852638.html Thanks mike
moondog Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Going ride and look at these machines in morning. AP machine what model is it? I hoping TC don't beat me there. http://batonrouge.craigslist.org/app/3923852638.html Thanks mike Cajun - I don't see any AP machines in those four pictures. There's a USI 3013 3 wide and some sort of USI mini snack machine. The 3013's are only 28" wide so they'll fit in tight spots It looks like there's a couple of machines missing if the guy's got seven.
Vendors Tech Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 All the soda machines I would stay away from. They are all very old, they look like USI machines. Actually, I think all the machines in the pictures are USI. All I can say with USI, especially with machines that old is STAY AWAY. If for no other reason than parts are no longer available, and the ones that are available are very expensive. Get some AP or National machines. Go for Dixie Narco or Vendo for sodas. They may cost more, but its worth the extra to get a machine you won't be afraid to turn your back on. USI vending machines constantly have problems and are not small operator friendly. I know there are those who will disagree, but anyone who does is one of two things. 1), Only has owned new USI machines and so is not aware of problems they have as they age. 2), Has worked on them for years and knows them inside out, and doesn't understand why everybody else can't fix what they think is a simple problem.

I am looking at three locations tomorrow that have two year old CB700 and CB 500 machines. I currently do not have any of these machines. What do I need to look for and what issues will I encounter with these if I decide to purchase? My instincts are telling me to let this one pass, but I might as well take a look...
Vendors Tech Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 New machines are hard to find a problem with right off. They are new and parts that fail often generally are good into the 4th-5th year. Check the basics, validator, changer, vend motors. One of USI's biggest problems is harnesses getting cut. Check the motors closely and make sure each column vends. Listen to the compressor. Make sure its cycling properly, and if its running, make sure its running steadily and not clicking on and off every 2-3 minutes. That is a sign of a bad relay or maybe a compressor. Make sure you can enter and navigate through the service modes. If you want my advice, which you don't have to take, but I'll give it anyway. :-) If the accounts do decent volume, and the soda machines work, and you decide to buy the accounts... Immediately sell the USI soda machines. You can get a good price if they are that new on Craigslist. If you have a lot of other vendors in your area, it shouldn't be hard to sell them. Shop around first and find 2 good refurbished Dixie Narco 501E soda machines. Make sure you get enough out of the USIs to cover the cost of the new soda machines and what it would cost to deliver them. I guarantee you, you will LOVE the 501Es, and those will work for years like a workhorse. Buy them from a reputable refurbisher though. Maybe Vendors Exchange, A & M Equipment Sales, Drop's Vending, (I know Drop's isn't a huge company, but I know what their work is good.) For price comparison, we sell the 501E refurbished with a VN-2512 $1 and $5 validator, and MEI TRC-6512 coin mech, both reconditioned for $1200 each plus $315 for shipping per machine shipped to your door, or to your location. Our machines have new signs, decals, paint inside and out, buttons, your choice of labels, rebuilt control board and display, refurbished refrigeration, new lock, shims of your choice. Any machine you buy elsewhere should have at least that much in it for a refurb job. All the companies I recommended above all go through the same refurb process that we do for the most part. Anyway that's my advice. If you want to do it, check the pricing with everybody else, go for the best deal. I'm telling you, you'll never regret it with those Dixies. I'm sure any experienced member on this forum will second my endorsement of the 501E.
AZVendor Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Going ride and look at these machines in morning. AP machine what model is it? I hoping TC don't beat me there. http://batonrouge.craigslist.org/app/3923852638.html Thanks mike As pointed out, all the machines in his photos are USI multiprice machines. The two large sodas are CD10, with serpentine racks for 12 oz cans only. They have weak cabinets and the machines weigh a ton! I have seen them rust out on the bottom and cave in the sides, but they aren't outdoor rated so that's when they rust. The evaporator fan motors are a golpher to replace as is any other work on the cooling system due to its ridiculous size and how tight the install it in the cabinet. The narrow soda is a slave machine and is also 6 serpentine selections. The one snack in the second photo is an early 3013 or 3014 (shown by the missing L-handle). The last photo shows the latest machine which is probably less than 5 years old with a SM6 board or a later GVC board. It's the best of the lot. If you can get the brown snack for next to nothing, I need some parts off of it due to it's specific model number. Let me know what you do.

I've got a 3014 sitting here that I'm parting out - planning on selling the motors, display, control board etc. on ebay but there's a lot of other misc. parts there. Ps. I didn't know that you had rust in Phoenix

You will get a special doll by express mail, make sure you keep it with you! mike

AZVendor Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Moondog, I don't want Cajun to have to buy that machine just to part it out. Oh, and the rust happened to the CD10 I was talking about where it sat outside and the area got hosed down on a regular basis. The problem with the USI sodas is they don't have heavy duty levelers and so their levelers can't hold the machine steady if unscrewed too far. So the machine sits practically on the ground and if the area is always wet the flimsy cabinet will begin to rust. If your model is a 3014 and not a 3014A, then I need a right side candy shelf rail. The rails on the 3014 are longer than on the 3014A. Your machine must have the L-handle to lock the door which indicates the correct model that I need the part off of. What other parts are coming off the machine?

You don't really need to worry too much about keeping these machines running for a long time if they are as new as stated. They are both stack machines with front and back columns, like Royals have. They can do cans or bottles and are multiprice. The programming is different than you're used to and there are more flimsy sheet metal pieces and sharp edges than on other vendors (especially the product gates on each front column), but they are pretty reliable if they have been taken care of. There will be no problems getting parts for them and tech support is good from USI. If the price is good and the locations are good, I wouldn't turn it down because of the equipment.
CajunCandy Posted July 11, 2013 Author Posted July 11, 2013 Don't tell me Caserrie sent you that thing I haven't heard from AZ so maybe he only wants your parts I have not received the idiot yet, what you will get is a gri-gri doll from a witch, my first cousin, to show how much I care about my fellow vendor.

I've got the 3014 Az and all the parts are coming off and I'll scrap the body (we're not allow to create our own mooring anchors here in California like Mission does). Just to clarify, I tried to use some parts off of this machine just recently for a 3014A and the 3014 trays, coils etc. are about 1 1/2" shorter than the 3014A. The columns in the 3014A are slightly narrower - thus you can't swap the coils either. All of the right hand rails on mine are identicle whether they be for the candy or snack trays - they've got one white wheel up front and measure 25 7/8" long including the rear mounting tab. I've got six of them and probably anything else you might need. Maybe we could do a swap. I have not received the idiot yet, what you will get is a gri-gri doll from a witch, my first cousin, to show how much I care about my fellow vendor. That's okay Mike - as long as you don't send me any Rou-ga-rous I'll be fine Ps. Does that gri-gri thing come in the bobble head version - the lime green shag on my dash is starting to look a bit shabby

To buy or not buy, I would if the price was appropriate. The USI equipment line is not the best but they are not bad machines. I have had a number of them for over a decade and have not had major problems with them. The most frequent issue is DBA or coin mech going bad, but those are made by Coinco , Mars or someone else, not USI. Because they are not a favorite of large vending operators the large parts houses seldom, if ever, stock parts for them leaving you USI as your only source of parts and because they have no competition their parts tend to be significantly more expensive then a comparable part for a more popular brand. On the other hand for the same reason you can also get these machines for a lot less because they are not in high demand. You will get very different opinions, read them all and then make the decision that fits your needs and wants the best and don't look back.

Speaking of the "other hand" - make sure you don't cut off either hand when working on these "gems"
mission vending Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 Speaking of the "other hand" - make sure you don't cut off either hand when working on these "gems" I've never needed more than 3,4,5 or so stitches after working on any machine

What other parts are coming off the machine? I went and talked to the guy about the machines, he was selling them for his boss at a pallet plant. They was using them to supply snacks and drinks for the workers, till they got to expensive to fix. The one machine AZ was asking about is a 3014A model but it was pretty banged up and $100 that he wanted was to much for machine, in my eyes, so I offered $50 and he refuse. I told him have a nice day and ask for his card so Carbo can get a better price on some pallets. The coin mech. was still full of change, so I could have almost got the machine for free if he would taken the $50! mike ps. It was still a decent day I picked up a DN 440 mc for $50 it needs a cooling deck, and a general cleaning, it will take the place of my ugly machine in trailer park.

How about 4 of the right and 3 of the left snack/candy rails. Also the L-handle assy., logic board and credit display if you don't need them, 6 candy/snack motors and if, by chance it had a Coinco or Mars validator in it, the trim that filled the validator opening of the door and surrounded the bill opening in the validator bezel.
