Hello Everybody, Im a newbie here of course and have a question. I bought a used EZVend from a juice distributor going out of business. I got the machine home and realized the chute sensor wire was cut. I repaired the harness and am trying to adjust the sensor and am not having much luck. I downloaded the manual from Royals website and understand what to do just not sure if Im doing it right. Thanks for your time. :-)

The previous owner didn't pad the vend bucket did he?  Most of the Royals use a vibration sensor on the bottom of the vend bucket.

Im not sure what pad the bucket means.  I called it a chute sensor but it is a vibration sensor. The manual tells how to adjust it but Im not sure Im doing it right. Also I was wondering how sensitive the sensor is. Thanks for the reply.

If you have connected the cut wires color to color then follow the factory setup instructions as listed:  Find the adjustable POT on the board through the board cover and using a small flat screwdriver, turn the adjusting screw clockwise until the red LED comes on solid.  Then slowly turn counterclockwise until the LED just goes out.  Now turn counterclockwise 1 full turn.  This is the factory setting.  You can tap the delivery chute now and should see a flash of the LED upon impact.

If you have multiple vends, adjust the POT 1/4 turn clockwise to make it more sensitive.  Test columns 1 and 6 (furthest from the sensor) and if still multivending adjust 1/4 turn more.  Repeat until multivends stop.

If you have dry vends (nothing drops, credit cancelled), turn the POT 1/4 turn counterclockwise to make it less sensitive. Test and repeat if still getting dry vends.

If you have vending problems after your factory setting and further adjustments, then your drop sensor is compromised by the cut wires and must be replaced.  I suspect this will be the ultimate result because you never want any cuts or scrapes of the sensor harness insulation.

If the previous owner was trying to vend glass bottles (a no-no) he may have put padding in the bottom of the box where you'd retrieve your item - this won't work with a vibration sensor mounted to the bottom of that box.

If I were to replace a faulty sensor (haven't had one yet) would I need to readjust the POT or would it defaut to it's original setting?

I think the juice bottles were glass but no padding in box when I got it. I believe he wasnt very honest with me on condition of machine when I bought it. The chute was taken out and laying next to machine. He said just bolt it back in and Im good to go. I think he swapped the chute with another machine because that sensor was bad or acting up.  :(

It sounds like you just need to replace the sensor.  Royals are generally very good machines and once you get it repaired, you'll love it.  Check the machine for broken glass as this will cause other problems and never put glass bottles in this type of machine - that's what the newer robotic glassfronts are for.  Parts are available through Royal's tech support.

Rookie,

I can send you a good chute sensor if you'd like.  PM me if interested with the specific model number off the side of the cabinet.

When installing a new sensor you will have to recalibrate the logic board to match the new sensor.

I'll never get back that hour I spent adjusting the POT on the control board where the LED was burned out. Fun times. ( I did get it to work, eventually. )

Also, where AZVendor says "small flat screwdriver" read "teeny tiny itty bitty flat screwdriver." I've often had to use the blade of the knife on my multitool, as I don't often carry my full toolbox in.

Just a quick update. I bought a sensor from a local distributor and installed it on the chute. I need to put it on the machine and adjust now. Maybe tonight.

Sorry for the delay but Ive been a little busy. Anyway installed to new sensor and adjusted it as stated in the instructions that came with it. It sensed perfectly right away and I didnt have to fine tune it at all. Here are a couple of pics of the old and new sensors. Thanks to all who replied to this post.

I went on Royals website and looked at the parts illustration. Found the sensor number and called distributor and it wasnt a good number. They called Royal and found out it had been updated and they had that number and 7 of them in stock. I dont have it handy but will get the new part number if you want it.  :)
