Is anyone here really financially successful with bulk vending machines?

Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum and was thinking of getting into the bulk vending biz. I've been reading through some of the topics here and I guess I'm a little disappointed. As far as the money you make with bulk vending machines. Are there any very financially successful people out there that can share their experience with me. And no offense, but $500 or even $100 a month with 400 machines, in my opinion, is not that successful. I can't even imagine the amount of driving you would have to do, even if its only 10 days every 8 weeks or whatever, to service them. Plus locating 400 machines, I can imagine, would take years and a TON of driving. Is there anyone out there making like $5000 net/month with like 200 machines? That would be pretty decent. Also, a question: I was thinking about buying Antoine Cameron's book: How to start a vending business. Is this guy legit?

Thanks all! Looking forward to hearing from some successful bulk vending operators

Joester, work harder and smarter than anyone in your area. With that you will make all the money you want. Dont think anyone on here will open their books to the net/you.

Read through the forum a little more.

Research will show you that no one is averaging the $1.25 per head you used on your average.

At least I've never seen anyone admit to that in the years I've been here.

The industry average per head is $7 according to a study done years ago.

Most experienced Bulk Vendors will tell you that $7 per head is actually on the low end.

I don't know where you got your $1.25 per head example (400 machines earning $500), but it's way off.

So while most folks will not open their books to you, you can safely presume that 400 machines will earn you in the thousands, not the hundreds....provided you are servicing and managing your route properly.

Cameron's book was the best book on bulk vending that I found. Of course, I found this forum after reading the book. Honestly most of the information found in that book can be found here on this forum. And, some of the info here is better. He really pushes the vendesign machines. I bought ten used ones because of him and really they aren't bad but I prefer some other machines like a&a and northwestern. They are more versatile than the vendesign's.

And yes...you can make $500 a month on less than 400 machines. I only do this partime and am by no means as experienced as others on this site but I can make $500 before lunch on a good day.

Keep in mind that you don't have to service every machine every month. Even if they collect their basic $7 per head (400 machines x $7 = $2800 per month gross) you might only have to work 4-8 days per month to collect. Example: if you do hard candy/toys/gumballs you can stretch your service cycle out to 12 weeks or more as long as your machines dont run out of product, so 400/12 = 33 machines per week. If each head is good for $7 per month, then each machine will have $21 in it after the 12 weeks. So if you can collect 17 machines per day(33 machines per week / 2 days work = 16.5), you can do this in 2 days per week and collect $350 per day gross ($21 x 17)

Also keep in mind that those calculations are for SINGLE HEADS, if you do multiple heads/racks then you are talking much much more than those figures without anymore driving.

Now imagine working a 5 day week with even single heads (1020 heads/12 weeks = 85 heads per week / 5 = 17 heads per day). 1020 heads at $7 per head is going to bring you somewhere around $7140 gross per month before COGS.

If you figure in a 30% COGS then you are looking at around $5000 per month profit. Thats not going to make you rich, but its pretty good, and thats just single heads. Multiply that several times for racks/cranes/pushers and other vending that brings in more dollars per time spent.

Thank you jerry1973, for breakn it down for me! When I posted I didnt realize that pretty much everyone uses triple heads. Which bring those numbers way up. Also replacing triple heads at good locations with racks to make even more money. Good stuff

Actually most like individual heads from well known brands such as northwestern, oak, beaver, A&A and then team them up as 2,3 or even use on racks. If you stick with one brand then you have a lot of flexibility to use them in many different ways, plus parts interchangeability and other advantages. I personally have several triple head machines that I inherited with routes that I purchased. They are doing well for now, but eventually will be upgraded.

I sell a combination of gumballs and candy.  I've been in the bulk candy vending business since April of 2011.  I have 38 heads out now. My gross monthly average is $13.58 per head.  I calculate my net monthly revenue per head to be $10.18.  So, not counting the cost of gas to drive the route, I make $386.95 per month (on 20 locations).

I don't know if that qualifies as "really successful", but I'm sticking with it.  If I had 400 machines, I'd be netting $7,700 a month.

As far as I'm concerned, you are PROFITABLE...thus, you are SUCCESSFUL.

Plenty of million-dollar businesses would love to be in the black.

You are already there.

Nice job!
