Hey all, looking at a bunch on amazon. I hear a lot about this Antoine Cameron book. Just wanted to get some opinions from real bulk vending ppl.

Thanks!

The VENDiscuss Forum is the best vending source you have!  No need to spend money on buying a book when everything you need to know is right here.

I'm reading this now - it's one of the better books I've seen so far.  But like others said above, this forum will teach you more than you'll need.

I agree with both of the above comments and will take it one step further and say most, not all, but most any vending eBook you buy that was written after 2007 probably took the content directly from this forum.

And to anyone reading this and not posting, the answer to the question in your head is.... Yes.

Thanks guys, yea I figured. Was just wondering if there were any 'Must reads' out there. I'll prob just grab cameron's book for the hell of it since ppl are saying its a great little story. Its cheap to download ebook

There have been a few good books published in the past regarding our industry.  I would suggest:

King Of The Gumballs – Lyle M. Becker – great history

Okay, Just One Ride – Steven E. Veatch

Great American Chewing Gum Book – Robert Hendrickson

Trouble With Gumballs – James Nelson (1956) interesting read

The best book I have ever read but is very rare was written by Sid Sherman.  Sid was the son in law of Sid Bloom – founder of the Oak Manufacturing Company.  It gave a complete history of not only Oak but the entire industry.  I am sad that there are not many copies out there.

Thanks for sharing these Frank, I will be sure to check these out! Any idea where to get a copy of the book by Sid Sherman?

The book never went to print. Copies were distributed to the actual people that were in the book. I believe some people wanted their names changed or omitted. I have seen two copies: 1) The Vendor 2) The rise and fall of the worlds largest bulk vending empire. I do not know of a final version or the final name. This book covered the Oak empire from the mid 1930's to the mid 1970's. If you search an old post by TBird Johnny on the history of Oak on here you will find some facts he wrote. I lent him my copy to read and he posted some facts.

It was a very brief summary. We in this industry have very good companies. Not only Oak but Northwestern and Beaver also A&A and Cardinal and Flatline to Oakleaf and Ford and Concord. So many more as well. Each and everyone of those companies have great history.

Ford in my opinion is the smartest and most successful man in bulk vending.

Ford mainly sold franchise systems I like the hands on guys. But there were many great companies that led the way.

Ford Mason was a pioneer and a visionary. He manufactured his own machines and gum. He did more than sell franchises, he created an industry. He improved the quality of gum as well as made the penny gum machine acceptable. HAV, you drive me nuts... Lol

Thanks Frank.  Although I think that the information on this forum is definitely most helpful, every bit of information counts. I will look into the books you suggested.  Mario
