Ctwilki Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 My machines have 4 slots that take cans only but I'd like to vend other items there, maybe using a PVC tube the same size as soda cans to put items inside of. Any ideas?
AZVendor Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 Please give us the model of the machine that can be found on the outside of the door on the serial number plate on the hinge side. Then tell us exactly what product and size you are wanting to vend. Is this a multiprice machine?
Feral Vending Mechanic Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 From a technician's perspective, sounds like trouble waiting to happen. ( I foresee jams-a-plenty. )
Ctwilki Posted July 16, 2013 Author Posted July 16, 2013 It's a Wittern futura. I'm thinking some sort of can sized sleeve exists for this purpose. But I've never seen one.
AZVendor Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 Again, we need the model number and specific information on the product you want to vend. We can't shoot in the dark. The Futura probably has stack columns front and back, yes? but it might be older and have a serpentine rack. That's why we need the model number.

Futura is a combo with a high capacity can drawer and two snack style shelves for cans or bottles. What exactly are you trying to vend?
Technivend Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 The Futura uses the High Capacity Can Tray from Wittern. While you could in theory do what you are asking it would probably be more trouble then it is worth. It appears as though the machine uses some space to sales features to get the display to match up with the amount of columns that are available. I am not sure if the trays are identical to the standard Wittern trays or not but depending on what you are trying to vend it may be better in the long run just to swap the tray out.
Ctwilki Posted July 17, 2013 Author Posted July 17, 2013 My machines are pictured here on the front page: http://www.evending.com/ The cans are in a drawer at the very bottom of the machine. There are spirals that move the cans, and they lay horizontally in the drawers. I have customer requests for sandwiches, 5 hour energy shots, and other items that may not vend properly in the snacks area, or need refrigeration. I'm not wanting to invest $8000 in a cold machine nor a mini machine that can easily be stolen to vend energy shots. So I was thinking of solutions that would be cheaper, like a container that is the exact size of a soda can that I can put items in to vend in the can slots. It works on gravity and relies on spinning in the drawers to move the items when they vend. Maybe someone should invent this. Maybe it should be me. I can imagine that there are methods available to put the little energy shot bottles in a regular spiral chip/candy type shoot in a vending machine, like taping them to something the size of a reece's peanut butter package. But I've not seen these items for sale anywhere. Thanks for your input. I look forward to your thoughts on this idea.

They will vend out of the candy spirals in the upper portion of the Futura. As for sandwiches...run Forrest, RUN! Everyone says they want them, rarely will anyone eat them. No need to reinvent the wheel, keep it simple. That is what works best.
AZVendor Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 Why don't you instead sell Red Bull which will fit into the dispenser as-is. Or you can get the 5 hour Energy on a card that will vend from a dual spiral snack selection. I believe this may require cardboard guides or something similar that may be available from 5 hour. You can not vend refrigerated food items from this machine as there is no health control nor are any selections configured for sandwiches. As this is a one-off design from USI for a third party reseller you should call USI tech support and ask about vending those specific products. You are using a small combo machine that is not designed nor sold as a solution for every product out there, in spite of pie in the sky claims by evending. There are limitations to every machine.
Ctwilki Posted July 17, 2013 Author Posted July 17, 2013 I know they don't need to be cold, but it was a thought. I figured there was a product out there already that would accomplish this, but I suppose not. I've heard that about sandwiches too.. I can see ice cream selling very easily here in Texas, but I'm wary of anything that expires in less than 30 days. I prefer 90 days. I love these machines. I really do. I haven't yet tried anything except what they are created to do, and they work very well. The sure vend feature is fabulous. And I honestly find them easy to place, (low electricity bills, smaller footprint) and I tend to spoil my customers, so I visit often. Small and simple. Profitable, but not exhausted. :-) But I might still create this idea. 5 hour energy drinks offers a vend-able guide type item? thanks! I'll look that up. I've seen so many strange items in hotel vending machines, that I just assumed there was already a product for this. Thanks y'all.
AZVendor Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 If you really love this machine and plan to use more like it, why not save some money and purchase from a USI distributor, or if none are in town, direct from USI. You will probably save money equal to whatever markup e-vending puts on it. I forgot to mention that with frozen foods and ice cream, there really is no shelf life - it's until it melts.
orsd Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 better yet, get used from cl you can the deals you think are OK and post them on the forum and the members here can evaluate the deal
