My two cents.

If everything works like it should, lights, coin mech., DBA, cools properly without any noise coming from deck, I would have no problem paying $850 for it. Do you intend to vend cans or bottles, because it takes shims to vend 20 oz bottles from it.

This is a very good machine - Coke only buys the best, just make sure they still don't own it

I was thinking about mainly doing cans but the location asking for a machine also wants water which will probably be bottled.

How would you check to see if Coke still owns the machine?

Thanks !

They have asset # inside door, just call the local coke company and give them # they will let you know if it legal or stolen.

If you want to vend water, use the ribbed bottles - probably the Ozarka brand in your area.  The standard bottles will jam.

Thanks for the tip.  This will be my first try with a soda machine so I really appreciate it.  Still need to figure out what's going to be the best method for moving the machines around as well.

A pro mover should run you a hundred bucks.  Unless you've got thousands of dollars worth of special equipment and are built like a defensive tackle, this is one job you'll want to farm out

Learn how to set the pricing, replace the validator, coin mech and motors, and understand how to install the various shims.  Problems with the control board and compressor deck should be handled by a pro.

Here is a better deal if you ask me

Oops I missed the fact that it was a 501e not just a 501, so to put it in perspective here is a link for a 501e to give you an idea of what they go for.

Thanks for the links.  Very helpful given that I'm located in St. Louis too.  ;D   I'll look into what a local mover will run.  Thanks for the advice.

I checked out the local Sam's for H2O and it looks like they don't carry Ozarka brand.  They do have AquaFina, Dasani, Ice Mountain & Nestle.  Whe you recommend a ribbed bottle does that mean it has ridges/indentations up and down the height of the bottle or does it mean they go arounc the circumfrence ?  Looks like Ozarka can be ordered but isn't normally carried.  Also is there a good place to get lables for the buttons on the machine?

Many thanks for the advice.

You want the bottles made by Nestle but not branded Nestle (too soft) and the 16 oz bottles will have circumferential ribs molded into the bottle from top to bottom to stiffen the bottle.  Only the brands sold by Nestle will have those ribs and sadly, Nestle branded bottles themselves don't.  Ice Mountain is one of the brands Nestle owns and should have the molded ribs.

Aquafina and Dasani can be used if the bottles are stiff off the shelf.  Those stiff bottles have been injected with nitrogen to keep the bottles firm when they get cold.  If they are soft when on the shelf they will get softer and crush under their own weight in the machine.

I can supply labels for you if you would like to PM me the flavors you need.  I can tell you that Arrowhead is the only Nestle water I have a label for since that's what is sold here.

Did you purchase the macnine?

How many employees work at the location you plan on putting the machine?

Missed out on the machine.  One other was looking at it before I could and apparently bought it.  I was offline for a week and just got back on CL to check for others.  Only thing available now is a DN 276E (Dr Pepper) @ 600 which is less $ and may be a better fit for the small office I was going to put the machine in.  Trying to check it out this weekend.  There's only about 15-20 people in the office daily and this one might actually be better on a (monthly?) service cycle (??)  I'm not sure if 600 is a good deal though.  Lots of others on here seem to find plenty of machines in the 250-400 range which never seem to show up on my CL.  A local refurbiser has them for 1-1.3k so it may not be too bad @ 600 + cleanup & touch up.

I can't speak to the situation in Missouri, but around here those 276e's get scooped up pretty quick as there are few other good options in that size range.

I'm 6'2" very large bone build ala defensive tackle(I did play that position). I moved a soda machine myself and the dolly broke so I had to improvise. I managed to move the machine but I will never ever do that again!!!

Yep,

You didn't have the expensive equipment.  I'm 5'9", 150 lbs (wide receiver) and managed to move one myself once, with a good dolly, and I will never ever do that again either!!!

I was thinking about getting the appliance truck with a 2nd set of flip out wheels from Northern Tool ($200) to move it around... I figured on getting a neighbor's 20 something kid to help out.  Probably lean it back on pvc rollers into the full sized van (and wait a day to plug in).  Not sure if I should get a couple neighbor kids though.  I tried once before with a Red Bull machine and a normal appliance truck and my arms hurt for a couple weeks.  An extra set of wheels should handle the weight I would think...  Moving company quotes have been coming in at around 150-250$ which is a bit high since I'll need to move it once to the garage so I can work on it, clean it up, touch up any paint and adjust any of the shims to vend what I want.  Then I'll need to move it again to the location.

Hmmm:

I've manage to move all my machines myself. If I do need help my 6' 4" 300 lb brother will help me load machines on trailer and after that I got the rest.

Yes, I have the expensive equipment.  ^-^

I guess feeding a 6'4" 300 lb brother could get to be more expensive than a 4 wheel appliance truck...  :))     Unfortunately, I don't have access to a brother.  I'll have to stick with the neighbor.  At $10/hr he's fairly cheap...  I guess I am too... lol

If you're serious about running full size vending machines and are intent on getting something from Northern Tool, this is the only thing I see on their site that you should get: http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_21082_21082 .  I would actually recommend a dolly from Stevens if you like this style of 4 wheels, or you can use a Dutro dolly like I prefer, with a different style of 4 wheels.

You are finding out the hardest part of beginning in full line vending and that is how to transport your machines.  To be truthful, the best thing to do is find someone that does vending equipment moving and pay them to do the job right.  You will avoid damaged machines and damaged locations this way.  If you watch what they do long enough, you will learn how to move machines yourself and can then invest in the needed equipment.  If you have the equipment then you can move machines for others in your area and have an additional revenue stream.  Regardless of how many people on this forum move machines by laying them down, and not knocking the way they do it, the best way is with proper equipment, a liftgate on a truck and the proper knowledge to do the job.

Get you a stepryder big boy dolly, lift and roll pair dollies, and drop deck trailer. The only thing that will make you sweat is the weather. I move loaded 600 E's with the lift and rolls. Twist it out the door and roll it right onto the trailer. No stairs! $100 plus mileage. Add $50 for additional  machines up to 3 per load. The only help I need is for someone to hold the doors open and push.

I'd love to be able to follow your suggestions but it doesn't seem cost effective for a one machine vendor.  If I could find a mover that would deliver the machine for $100 I'd jump at the chance to deliver to the location.  I'd probably still want to bring the machine home first myself to clean & prep it.  But with my current quotes making 2 moves per machine (from current owner to my garage and from my garage to new location after cleaning) it's going to cost between $300-500.  Add the cost of the machine and it's going to be a very long ROI.  (if the location would empty the machine every week that might be different but I really don't expect them to drink quite that much soda)

I realize that the Wesco, Dutro, Stevens dollys might be better made but they are 2-4 times the cost of the NT version.  I'd like to think that the NT version would at least last a few years while I try to get a few more machines in place and can then upgrade to a better quality verison.

A small truck w/ a lift gate would be fantastic and I hope to get there some day...  I'm just trying to slowly get the business off the ground while trying to avoid debt.  Maybe once I have a few more machines...  until then it'll be just a bit more challenging.

Many thanks for the advice though - very much appreciated.
