davco1 Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 And is it a fair value? http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/for/3941321179.html
adog Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 I know two or three people that operate these things and they hate them! I believe you can not adjust say 1 in 5 win. Also they do not have the 3 separate adjustments for the claw strengths, claw grabbing at bottom, strength of claw on the way up, and strength of claw on the way back to the drop shoot. I think it only has one adjustment. So if you set it on weak it will be on that setting until you change it as to other cranes when it hits #5 try where they are suppose to win, the crane will get maximum strength and allow user to win. I think its worth like 200 and wouldn't pay any more. Heard of problems with these as well.
davco1 Posted July 18, 2013 Author Posted July 18, 2013 What about this one? Oops http://dallas.craigslist.org/sdf/bfs/3897955892.html
cointech Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 the hollywood cranes are notorious for havin broke wires in the harness and bad sticking relays causing them to freeze up
mjacks Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 What about this one? Oops http://dallas.craigslist.org/sdf/bfs/3897955892.html Holy crap, $1000! I just gave away some similar cranes. Drop a 0 and you have it about right.
QBTCoin Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 If you can wait, there'll be an arcade auction on the 27th of this month in the Dallas area. You can get newer model coastal and smart import cranes under a grand hammer price, and older ones like your showing often go for under $100, sometimes free.

Where can I find information on this auction?
cointech Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 the auctions website is http://www.americanamusementauctions.com/ not every deal at an auction is a good deal but you can get some great deals. Everything is sold as is so the rule is buyer beware. Go there early to look over every inch of anything you might be interested in buying. And everthing means everything. Does it have all the parts and boards. does it work right, what is the condition of the cabinet do the coin mechs, bill acceptors, controls work. even the lights as rhis will all effect how good of a deal you got verses the risk of buying at the auction. Certain things are easier to buy at an auction like sticker machines and bulk machines. Parts are easy to find and easy to replace so buying a dirty rack has less risk then buying a dirty crane. many crane and game parts can be imposible to find new and can be expensive. power supplies run between $55 and over $100. boards and motors might be no longer available. This all goes with buying anything from anywhere, not just the auction. It is alway buyer beware. The auction adds a buyers premimum of 13.9% and sales tax of 8.25% so anything you buy is going to cost + 22% You have to be carful to not overpay and also you could be bidding againt the owner of the item for sale. Know what its worth in advance. Decide what you will pay based on the conditions ahead of time so your not temped to go over your budget when bidding. when your at the auction, don't be afaird to ask ather people opinions about equipment. Most people will tell you if they now of a problem with something and sometime you might find the person you are talking to might have something for sale that you can use. If you see someone else looking at the same thing you are, ask them is this your piece, what do you think about it and stuff like that. If it is theirs, you can even ask what they are looking to get for it, to get an idea of what it might sell for. When setting equipment at a location, cheaper is great but not alway better. First and most import is it has to work right. If you want to lose an account, bring in faulty stuff that the customers complain about and the location will tell you to get you stuff out or opens the door for another operator to get in. It has to also be clean and also important is it can make money. Some equipment, no matter how cheap it is, if it won't earn is money wasted. But the other side is the cheaper you can set a location, the quicker you make a profit and you investment risk in that location is lower. It can be a fine line of what works, verse the cost plus making the location happy but You are in this to make money for you so everthing is based on value you can get back if you have to sell the equipment or move it some where else how easy will it be to re set. so sometimes something that cost more can be a better deal if you can use it longer or at more places or if you can resell it later for more money. when you go to the auction, cash works best. First is you cant spend more then you have. But another advantage is if you make a deal with someone besides the auction, most everyone else there wont take credit cards and then the best paart is cash can make deals happen. when you buy used equipment at auction or craigs list or just about anywhere you have to assume the worst but hope for the best
cointech Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 When you go to the auction its best to bring any help that will stay, dolly, straps, rope, tarp, cardboard, anything you might need and a truck. Everything has to be out that night and its best to get what you buy and them leave. Not leave to get stuff and come back and find something is different or been moved, keys missing or whatever. If there are no keys with it, assume there are none and you will have to buy locks and some are special. Dont buy more then you can haul.
