Hello all,

I've been thinking about getting into vending for a long time, and wasn't sure how to break in until I found this forum.  I'm a recent graduate, going back to school for a graduate degree, and hoping to teach.  But I want to make some extra money on the side (or even go into vending full-time if things pan out right and give myself a backup career plan) to start living a life that I can be proud of - spending time traveling, exercising, gardening, and raising pets + children with my significant other.

I'm hoping to research for many months before I dive in, but I'm very excited to join this community and understand more about the vending business.

Thanks!  How is business in the OC?

After looking around for only a few days, I'm very impressed by the community and vibrancy of this forum.  I'm really happy I landed here - I'm learning so much already.  It would be so easy to just jump right in, but I know I need to keep researching to understand all the complexities of vending.  You guys have really built something valuable here, and I much appreciate the knowledge that I can glean from here.

in so cal, the used equipment market is very good, compared to some other areas

just, wait, be patient, search Craigslist regularly, and also, if you find a deal, post a thread on it

also, what type of vending? soda/snack, or bulk?

I'm looking into mostly bulk - just recently contacted A&A Global for their M&M and gumball prices.  How is $57.90 for a case of plain M&Ms (6/42 oz per case)?  I just went to CostCo the other day and they were selling 54 oz bags for $9.99.  I figure that's a much better price, but if you have any leads on that in the area, that would be great!

Speaking of which, I saw this Vendworx for sale on eBay ($56).  It's pickup only - but its located in Anaheim!  I'm not prepared to buy a machine yet at the moment, so if you're interested in it:

Best of luck!

You might try Candyman in Anaheim - can't guarantee they'll have the best price but they carry a wide variety and may have some items you can't find elsewhere (like Costco).  I believe that Eagle Vending Machine Company is still in La Verne.  They apparently make a good machine http://vendiscuss.net/index.php?/topic/1198-eagle-vending-machines/

ive heard bad thing quality wise on the vendworks/SSF/import beaver knock off machines

stick with aa global, oak, eagle, northwestern, and beaver for your stuff

the first three brands are around 56-60 new, and so used I try to go less than 25 per if it is good condition, less if parts are needed, way less if it needs paint.

also oak is in vernon, ca

Eagle and oak pretty much have identical designs, apart from the coin mechs and chute doors

Nice!  Thanks for the tip-off on Candyman.  I'll also look into Oaks and Eagle - I'm lucky that they're in the area.  Appreciate all the help I can get @orsd and moondog.

Hey Bryan,

One of the great things about the vending business is the time flexibility, though it is a lot of work. When I first started working for the company I'm with, I was working 40-50 hours a week just running a route. The thing is, because I made my own schedule, I only worked 3 days per week! Granted, they were long days, but with four days off to devote to hobbies/personal development, vending can really work for that lifestyle.
