Yeah that buck suggested price kinda defeats the purpose for us operators. Ive always had luck with stuff that lights up. Have not seen these yet. The light up yo yo"s are killer for me.

Ya I stick to the generic stuff and try for the buck. Air yoyo does real well I also get the bling teeth from cardinal another good buck item.

I'm not big on vending 1.00 suggest price point items to be honest your right back at 30% cost. But I did buy a super hero light from a machine so that I could see it and they real nice. Very good quality and works great. I can see trying them.

Unfortunately, the better the licensed toy is, the more it costs. Have you had luck with buying $.50 vend items and vending the at $1.00 ?

We do use this approach.  Cardinal has the best items for this right now Zippers, Finger Lights, Foam Sports Balls, Rubber Band  Gun, Bling Teeth, Yo Yo Balls.  AA has Willie Worm and Yo Yo balls,  But years back AA did have great products to fit this approach.  We used to sell Blues Clues, Shortcake, 47 mm Brick Puzzle Ball, Beach Ball, And many more from AA.  Is seems that the figurine prices started to rise when AA started to produce the super mini versions of figurines for service vending.  If I have missed and good AA items that fit this approach please list them the sales guys know what others are doing and can often pass on great info.

I second this Hav, I have been ordering only from a&a for at least two years but recently I have been going with cardinal because the majority of there stuff is right around 36/box. Where most of the premium stuff from a&a is above 40/box. Even a lot of the 1" from a&a is getting expensive compared to other suppliers.

You're right about the premium toys being higher, but not all. Keep in mind that a portion of the money goes to the companies that license the toys to us. That's a negotiation, that occurs every 1-3 years, depending on the company. Especially for the NFL items. But I am curious about the premium items that Cardinal has. I have not seen any licensed products from them, except for the NFL Pencil Topper Helmets ( which they purchased from us ). Traditionally, they don't really put them out. However, I will say that they carry some other nice, generic products.

It all comes down to what your customers ( consider the demographical area )will spend extra quarters on. We do try to carry a large range of items that will satisfy all vends. And at times, we 'undersell' our products. Birthstone Bears and Punch Balloons are great examples of this. The amount we quoted as selling prices suggests $.50 vends, but you aren't limited to this. All of my customers are selling the bears at $.75-$1.00.About a third of my customers sell the balloons for more than $.50. One of my customers inflated a few samples for kids before setting up his machines at each location. When they saw the size it expanded to, they couldn't wait to drop quarters into the machine. Granted, he only placed them in 15 machines, but it worked extremely well. it's all about perceived value.

Finally, if your customers aren't buying that higher vend item, what are they getting on the rack ? Does that drive them to another novelty or are they simply leaving ? If it's the former, then you're still getting the $.50.

You bring up some great points. The higher vends on top drive some sales to the bottom ,50 one inch which is ok because it has the best margin. Prem does not mean it has to be licensed AA generic yo yo is a great example that's a dollar item all day with no royalty. You guys had finger lights for a short time. Look in to those again. That's the great thing about AA they have something for all.
