Sandwhich machine won't stop spinning - jumper cord?

I have a cold sandwich machine on location, along with a drink and snack machine.  I got a call from them the other day that the snack machine won't take bills and that the cold machine won't spin.  When I arrived I noticed the snack machine wasn't even powered on.  Behind it, I see that they (the customer) had unplugged both the snack and cold machine and added in a short jumper cord type thing (industrial type) where both machines plugged into this thing and they plugged the jumper cord into the wall.  However, the snack machine was unplugged entirely.  I unplugged everything and removed this jumper cord from the equasion, and plugged both machines directly into an outlet in the wall.  The snack machine was fine, but the cold sandwich machine started spinning and wouldn't stop.  The screen was now flashing out of order, all while the door was open.  I shut the door and the screen cleared again and would take money and even allow me to select an item on the keypad, but kept spinning and spinning.  I let it spin for 15 minutes and it didn't stop.  I unplugged it for 15 minutes then tried again but again it wouldn't stop spinning.

I'm thinking it has something to do with this jumper cord.  It's in good condition, clearly industrial/heavy duty but seems strange this started happening only once they put this cord on.  I'm not happy they messed with my machines at all.

Can anyone help me with diagnosing the problem and how to fix it?  The picture below is the actual machines on location.

Many thanks,

It looks like a GPL built by National Crane?

It is most likely looking for home and can't find it. Not sure if it is similar to National Cold food or not. On National Cold Food 430, 431, and 432's they use a optic sensor on the turret motor. 430 and 431 are a plastic disk and 432's are a metal disk with holes in it.

Three things I would look for if it were me.

#1 Light bulbs.... If they are flickering it is messing with relays and control board.....

#2 Turret switch maybe stuck on front panel....... See if you can disconnect it... Or maybe the turret service switch within the cabinet.

#3 Optic sensor if it has one maybe dirty and needs cleaned.

That is my 2 cents for  now.

That's the GPL427, 429 or 436, a version of the Polyvend Foodking machine - the entire reason that National bought Polyvend, that and their distributor network.  That food machine uses a switch on a timing disk on the motor to stop it.  If the switch is loose or there is a damaged wire to the switch you can have this problem.  Remove the cover from the motor above the turret and take a look.

First you need to find the model number tag in the machine.

That looks like the food king one that National made after they bought them out.

I would check the load switch and the cam switch on the motor.

If you are totally lost you should pay someone to fix it and or RFM.

Be aware that chain will cut your fingers off if you let it.

RFM = Read the Friendly Manual.

I apologize for the dumb question, but where do I find these things in the machine?

Turret?

Optic Sensor?

It is never a dumb question.......... The turret is the big round thing that goes around and around.......... So the switches AZ is talking about are at the top just above the turret.... Optic sensors are 1 emitter and 1 collector. Emitter emits a beam of some kind most generally a infrared light  and the collector collects it.

The motors on all of the design variations of this machine use a single switch with an arm that rides on a timing cam attached to the motor.  If your door switch or Rotate switch aren't stuck, then the motor switch is probably bad as I stated before.  If you don't have any experience with this machine you should find an experienced repair technician to help you.  The good techs are worth their weight in gold, aren't we guys?

I was almost embarassed to say.  I took the cover off the motor and looked inside with a flashlight and saw 3 different plugs.  I unplugged them, then replugged them in and it started working.  Go figure!

I was thanking you all because the information you gave me started me on the right path.  I am new to vending and know little to nothing about how full sized machines work.  I didn't know where to start, but your posts headed me down the right path and gave me confidence to try it myself first.  It worked and you all saved me $60/hour for a technician.

Many thanks!

This knowledge helps us all.  We can either use this knowledge if we ever run across this problem or we can share this knowledge with someone else.  Thanks for telling us what it was!

My experience with GPL is the motor stop breaks and then the motor will not stop.

You can either put in a new motor or you can buy a new armature which will have the new stop on the bottom.

I have bought the armature's from D&S vending in Cleveland, Ohio.  They have pictures on their website of the parts.
