vinceqc
Well it's not a big problem because I found out about it,but now I don't know what to do I have a Rowe 4900 that I operate for 6 month with no problem.I had to change the bill acceptor ( coinco ) for a new one updated to polymer bills ( coinco vantage ) The bill acceptor has been checked twice by the local coinco office and they say it's OK.I tried using the bill acceptor,I put a bill in as the lights are flashing,it rejects the bill and then the lights stops, and would not accept any bills. I unplug the machine for a minute..then I put another one and it gets interesting. The credit on the machines goes 5,10,15,20...up to 185$ when I push the coin return and starts to give everything back ! I put the machine on off..Of course I don't want that happening to a customer, even it would make him very happy. My first idea,is that the main board has to be changed. Is anybody here ever had this kind of problem ? thanks

I have one that I recently retired and it was my impression that the only BA/Mech combo that would work was a Coinco BA30 and 9340L mech with special harness. Apparently the 4900 was not designed to accommodate a Bill accepter. Roger Morris (rmorris) mentioned some conversion kits that could upgrade a micro mech board to MDB sold by D&S Vending Supply - hopefully something like this will solve your problem but no none supports the Rowe machines anymore as far as parts and upgrade kits. vinceqc
It must have been upgraded before because I have the MDB harness inside the machine.Maybe the problem is with the converter ?
dogcow
i have a few 4900s, they are all in laundromats. why? because when the BAs went bad i just yanked them and put in a blanking plate. these machines are junk i got 3 for $500 because i needed machines that could be put somewhere they might get destroyed. i would replace /upgrade ASAP if u care about the location. its just an ancient junky machine. they can be made to look nice but you are gonna be embarassed by service issues in the long run. swap it out for a nice late model USI or AP and u can sleep easy
vinceqc
Actually I bought a Crane Millenia today and I was thinking about fixing it ( the side panel with the change return part is busted, part is 80$ ) and then sell it for profit. But now I think I should just swap those and sell the rowe for a couple of hundred bucks. If I change the control board (200$) who knows what's next with the machine. The millenia is not perfect, quite a bit of mileage ( 157 000$ in sales ) and needs a bit of cleaning but would still be better than the Rowe.A canadian coin changer can hold up to 250$ in change and I really don't want to find it empty with only 5$ in the bill casette. AZVendor
If your new Vantage validator is one with option switches on it, you might have the interface set incorrectly. This will not be the case if you have an MDB-only model.
