Why should I start a bulk candy vending business?

I am new to the community and haven't started vending yet. I've tried a number of different business ventures and haven't had any success with them yet. I'm trying to figure out if this business is right for me. In looking critically at the past mistakes I found that a lot of the problems have been in my mindset and I wanted to hear for you guys as to why you decided to start and a vending business, how you made it through the tough dip in interest I have run into on other businesses and do you feel it was worth sticking it out.

I know these may not be the typical questions you receive on here but I am just trying to figure out for myself if this is the path for me. I would like to hear some of your stories on how and why you got started. I want to get my thoughts straight and could use your help doing so.

I appreciate any advice, warning and encouragement.

Welcome to the forum!

Please take the time, hours and days really, to read through the various sub-forums on this site.  In just my weekly reading here I see answers that apply to many of your questions.  There are new and experienced vendors here and they all have their reasons for being in the business, so you can't ask a blanket question as you will get too many different answers, or perhaps not enough answers.  You would be better off reading for yourself, the many issues, successes, questions, doubts etc. expressed by our members.  You will be able to infer for yourself how most of the people here feel about their particular businesses.  Through reading this site over time you will be able to discern which vendors are large, small, new, experienced, nice, unkind, professional, amateur, successful and failing.  In other words, you will be able to read of their experiences and determine if you wish to experience some of them for yourself.

Also, don't let the search bar be a stranger.

Good luck.

Thank you for your reply AZVendor. I have done some searching through the forums and I had difficulty really seeing people's answers to the first and in my opinion the key question.

Why did you first start a vending business?

I see a lot of people talking about the dips and success they have seen but not why they started. The other questions I asked are really just to give me a roadmap on who those motivations transformed into success. Most of the posts on the forums are on specific knowledge questions, or about hardships or successes. For someone like me I need some help with mindset and early motivations.

So really I was hoping to hear some people's stories as to how they got into this and made it to success (whatever that looks like to them). Most responses like this are a piece of their story but never that complete.

I hope you understand my question better and why i posted it and hope that this isn't out of line for this forum's content.

I appreciate any response this community can provide on this man's search for meaning.

Best way to search is go to google, type in your search critieria and at the end add "site:vendiscuss.net", I find you get better results this way. Trust me when I say that if you read, read, and read you'll get it all figured out on here. That's what I did and I'm slowly but surely making money. Tip number two, start a notebook or Word doc and starting making some high level notes tailored to your issues. It helps me out to refer back to this when a situation arises that I already read on here.

In all your reading, which is exactly the right approach, make sure you consider options other than bulk candy as one of those might (or might not) be more appealing to you. Even within bulk there's toys, gumballs, tattoos, etc. And outside bulk are many other options.

Bonnernet, if you want to make a change in your life (for real) take in a Tony Robbins webinar. There is a reason billion dollar company's hire him to coach key executives. But you must really be ready to change. If you are he has a basic course that will help you get past your self imposed limitations. Btw, ALL limitations are self imposed.

At one time I owned a company that was grossing 5 million a year and had fifty employees.  When all was said and done I was lucky to net 50k working 60 plus hours a week.

I got into vending because I saw the opportunity to create a small overhead business I could run myself and make decent money.  I started with 50k to bankroll the venture and have 15k still sitting there.  This is a business you have to grow yourself, which is the hurdle that all new vendors face.  It's taken me 4 years and now I'm at the point where one more good account will be it in terms of meeting my goal of clearing 5 grand a month and I only work 80 hours a month which was another aspect of the vending business that appealed to me.  I've created a simple business that's pays well and that I can run well into my retirement years with plenty of free time for other things.  And I don't have to worry about making that 100k payroll every two weeks.

Btw - I'm a full line vendor which is a little different than the bulk operations, but the principles I've outlined here are the same for both types of vending.

Thank you for responding and telling your story. Was this your first business venture? where there other motivating factors that pushed you into taking the leap?

Personally I am Tired of working a mind numbing 9-5 job and want to replace my income in another way. In the past I have tried going after business ventures with little success. As after a while my passion and drive to see them through the tough periods fades, like when partners give up on the business. I'm worried that I might approach the business in the same way. And feel like the desire for money won't be enough to see this through.

What are your thoughts?

Moondog, I need some lessons from you I am still working 60 plus hours a week and getting busier lol. I think your profit margin on products are higher !. and your taxes are far lower than us here making it so much easier to pull the big  profits !.

Working for yourself is unmatched! The key is exactly that. If you enjoy setting your own hours and you are disciplined enough to work when you need to, then it works.

The biggest thing is your investment, make sure you research the equipment, invest low and if you decide in a few years that it's not for you, then sell it.

I originally started with 11 machines new (never bought new since), then started buying new and then routes. Eventually, I ended up with over 180 Uturn's, upwards of 5000 a month after payments on a route that I was buying and like Moondog, only worked a few days a week.

Through a bad business partner, divorce, and life, I ended up with only 20 locations, a storage shed with poor equipment and now up to 48 with 70 in storage going back out as quick as possible.

My point is that if you enjoy it, nothing will stand in your way.

Get your feet wet and test it, go from there!

Ron, I just got real picky about the accounts I would devote my time to.  This stuff takes time and you won't build a quality route overnight.

I don't know about that Mission.  As bad as the PRK (Peoples Republik of Kalifornia ;D ) is I know that Australia is pretty Socialistic which is always a recipe for high taxes.

I started out in this business partime while working a 60 plus hour a week high stress job. It's been a lot of hard work, but well worth it. Vending has been very good to me going into my 15 year as a full line vendor. I got tired for workin for the man, now i'm the man lol. This can be a tuff business to get started in but if you have the desire to work hard and to learn all you can from others in this fourm you can do very well for yourself. Best of luck to you.

Amen to that, there were a few pretty rough years but I'm glad that I stuck it out.
