How much work is up to you but the machines don't fill themselves, don't repair themselves, don't move themselves and don't find new locations by themselves. I'm not trying to be funny but just want you to realize that there is a lot of work involved per machine. If your idea of passive income is the old saying here in the US of referring to vending machines as "The Silent Salesman" then this could be right for you.
