Need suggestions on a good 3-wide

Recommended Posts

So, I had a break in on my Selectivend GF19 recently, a shame really, I really liked that machine, never gave me any problems other than being old, non-MDB / no guaranteed vend & ugly...it was in a small laundry room of an apartment complex, it looks like they used a crowbar to pry open the hinged side of the door to gain access to the validator, the door is trashed, so I'm looking to replace the machine and am wondering about suitable replacements, here's what I need.

1.  Can be no larger than a 3-Wide

2.  I'd like it to have a guaranteed vend system if possible.

3.  Security package is a must, or at least be a machine that lends itself to retrofit of some kind of security measures, puck locks, steel side door plates, ect.  There is no space for a cage, and I'm not sure what kind of security measures can be applied to snack machines honestly, I have a few D.N. & Vendo drink machines with puck locks and they already have heavy steel side door plates, is this even an option on any 3-wide snack machines?

I really like the AMS Slimgem, but haven't found a used one, and a new one seems a bit pricey for this location.

I've seen a few USI units floating around, but not sure they have the above criteria I've specified, are the USI's any good?

I'm in Southern California

Yes, USI are good machines.

You can do a few things to secure a snack without a cage. One is to install hasp locks along the side. Second is to put some sort of wire over the glass. This is best done using expanded metal because it is the strongest. Just cut it a little larger than the glass and bolt it in front of the glass using lag style bolts so they can attempt to unscrew the fasteners like traditional bolts or screws. Just make sure their are no sharp edges for someone to cut themselves on. Then bolt the entire machine either to the floor or wall.

Sometimes something as simple as a fake camera and some security decals keep most honest thief's away. We had a rest stop one time that was a great account but was constantly getting hit. We mounted up some fake cameras inside the machine along with decals that said VIDEO SURVEILLANCE. After that it pretty much stopped. If you didnt have room inside you could mount it on top of the machine facing towards the front.

I snagged those off the net but have done similar things in the past. It loos to me they built a steel frame to weld the mesh into and then bolted the entire thing to the front. This makes it nice and ceal with no sharp edges. If you notice their are tabs welded onto the frame that is used to screw into the front on the machine. You can get creative and stop most damage except from the real thieves that will do all sorts of crazy stuff no matter what you do.

That better be one hellacious account to risk another machine there. You can't do much volume from a 3 wide so how will you pay for two machines there? The expanded metal should be welded to a tube frame and bolted to the door. You may need to put a hockey puck on top at the hinge. Put a set of angle brackets on the top of the cabinet and door next to the hinge so they can't pry the hinge up to open the cabinet without also removing the puck lock. I have hasps in stock that you can use for this.

If you like it so much fix it.

Remove the glass and unbolt everything that is not welded to the door.

Buy a set of body hammers put on ear muffs and pound the steel back into shape.

Apply a little Bondo and paint.

Yes you will have 15 or 20 hours in it.

But sense the machine is so small this must be a hobby if you choose to keep this location your new hobby will be body repair. Cameras will not stop the thieves they will disable them and as soon after it is clear they will do what they want.

I feel your pain -had a crack addict pull this on one of my machines once.  Fortunately it was an old AP4000 that had just been serviced so I doubt he got more than a couple of bucks but he did destroy the coin mech as he didn't know how to open it.   The AMS would be my choice but there aren't many of them out here so you'd probably have to ship one from A&M.  Three wides in general are pretty rare and they'e almost as bad as combo machines in that they won't do enough volume to hardly be profitable because of their lack of capacity.
