kdub3821
I put this post in the other vending section but was not sure if anyone seen it. I'm looking for anyone who has ever set up or bought a machine that vends gloves ear plugs and so on. If anyone has if you have a moment can you answer theses questions. 1. How do you charge the company you are supplying 2 do you put a minimum amount of time the machine has to be used before the costumer asks for the machine to be removed 3 what are the machines to use or to avoid Thank you for your time
SCOTT1963
You can use any snack machine really, You load up the product just like snacks. On the charge end of the deal it gets a little more complicated. You can bill the customer for the product upfront but in my experience most of these machines are set up with a card reader or fob systems for inventory tracking purposes. Then the customer gets billed out for usage. You may want to visit Graingers, Cribmaster, or MSC sites to see how they operate their systems. No need to reinvent the wheel, learn from others that have done it already.
rmorris1953
I have set a few of these for USI. They marketed them for Fastenal for gloves, safety glasses, bits, tools etc. They were all setup to be monitored via internet. The employees would use their employee ID by entering on a keypad. Fastenal fills them and bills the company. The company can also see the data live. Any machine will work as long as you have the proper coils and packaging. kdub3821
The company I work for wants something like that but without the costly monitoring. They are just looking to have something on site with a few of each item for staff who get called out at night when nobody is in the office. They came to me because I already have a snack and soda machine in site. I was thinking of using a regular snack machine with a timer on it. So when the office is closed at 5 the machine will power up and power down in the morning. Then just charge them a monthly rate. I don't know what a good price would be. The cost from a company that works with these types of machines is really high. 27k for two machines and 190 a month for the monitoring
AngryChris
Geez. Maybe you can put something in there like an AP 7600 with an upgraded board and drop sensor. That might solve the problem. You could charge $100/month and everyone wins
kdub3821
I have never messed with and board swap outs yet. Is it difficult to change over?
AngryChris
The first time can be confusing, especially with no experience. If you have zero electronics experience like working on car boards or PC parts, then you'll need to follow the directions closely.
AZVendor
If the items to vend fit in normal spirals then you can use any snack machine. Just wire a timer inside the machine in between the power cord in and the transformer in so that the timer is always energized. It will then switch the machine on and off at the required times. If the items are to be given for free then you can set all prices at zero but there will be no control on how many they select. If you need to control the vends then you could use tokens or bill validator coupons. In the case of tokens you'd have no validator and your coin mech would need to be tuned to accept no coins but only a specific token. If using coupons then you'd have to eliminate or block off the coin mech and set the validator to only accept coupons. Unfortunately you have to buy 500 coupons at a time. KychrisKy
I take care of two machines for the railroad, glasses, ear plugs, gloves etc The rail road gives the employees like 100.00 a year for Ppe. Then They have a contract through ORR safety company who monitors the sales of the items weekly, then they send me the items to refill the machine of previous sales history, I already have snack machine there so when I fill mine up I fill theirs up as wel. I get 40.00 a week to work their stock out I hope this helps, I will take picks of their setup n post them for yea
Walta
Gloves are a top seller for one of my customers. Buys them by the skid load of cases at .15 per pair vend price 1.00 Have the employer add 1.00 a day to the pay check as an untaxed expense reimbursement. If you do not tell them about your mark up a 1.00 price seems low as you will find it to be below retail. The employees can bring there own if they prefer. If you do not do the monitoring and do not charge the employees, the waste and shrinkage will grow into an epidemic. You may as well put them in a box and let everyone take what they want. kdub3821
No they will want it free vend. They are 24/7 but nothing is scheduled after 6pm. It's for anyone called out. I figured most crews are 3 person. Just stock for 6 and fill when needed. I work there so I will see the machine everyday. The script option is a good idea. How do I convert a machine to take script? AZVendor
You would need to get a Coinco or MEI validator that is programmed for the coupons and then you'd need to order the coupons. They can also be printed for the company or you can choose from several designs. If you need one of these you can PM me.

I recently put in some sporks into an account in a snack machine for free next week they where all gone even though I sell only a couple items that needs a spork and the sell of those items did not match the number of sporks missing. I then set the price to .05 and that fixed the problem. You can either just do a .05 vend price or tokens, etc. But no real need of tokens since you can just keep up with how much you stock of each item and how many is missing. My point is a simple .05 charge may keep people from abusing where if they where free they probably would. Other than that only way is monitoring type setup. We have never done free but do safety glasses, ear plugs, etc in machines all the time for whatever price makes sense per item. Usually $2.00 for safety glasses and $1.00 for ear plugs and that doubles your money or more.
Walta
The problem with free and unaccountable is demand is unlimited people will not take care of free items. How long before the altitude becomes I never put used gloves on my hands and I take my gloves off for lunch, use the rest room, answer the phone, go onto the office, and pick my nose. They will need to add a janitor just to empty the trash cans full of gloves. What is the point of having the machine dispense the gloves if they are free and unaccountable? kdub3821
Sorry I need to explain this more. In the morning everyone comes to the shop to get their gear and ppe then leaves for the job. At this point the timer on the machine will be off because the staff can get into the ppe room where another employee is there keeping count. After the shift ends everyone comes back to return their gear and change. Once 4 pm hits and eveyone is gone the timer will turn the power back on for anyone who gets called out. I'm thinking to only put out enough in the machine to cover two crews. I have never seen more then one crew get called out at once.so it's not like everyone can just raid it. Plus if I go to the script everyone will have a set amount of them. The point of this is to keep a supervisor from coming from a hour away just to open a door for 15 minutes for a crew to get ppe
